The owner of the company i work for has requested to have this software placed on his business laptop. Before I can approve this request I need to know more about how the app is coded (use of mobile code, opening of protocols on personal firewalls, etc) and how the installed program receives updates and how often they occur. I have looked for some release notes or documentation regarding this program available for download but have not been able to procure. Would a SUUNTO representative be able to provide me with such documentation or get me in touch with someone who can answer my question? Thank you in advance.

I guess there is no safety issue with Suunto App on a laptop as I haven’t seen a Suunto App for laptops yet… but surprise me 😉

I connected with Support as suggested by the moderator and thought i would share what i was told for anyone else that may have similar questions.

No use of mobile code - the application does not phone home to a SUUNTO server
No protocols opened on any personal firewall
In 3-4 month increments the laptop will need to be intervened with again to apply the latest update to SUUNTOLINK software.
Support as well as myself suggests that this be loaded onto a personal device and not a business device regardless of these Security validations.

my bad, I oversaw suuntolink somehow.
basically I would be hesitant to install my private watch software on the business laptop of my employer. if I am self employed I would do it as I do not know what could be harmful to the business with installing it…?!

I completely agree, if it were up to me the answer would simply be no please load this on a personal device, however the owner usually gets what they want and i just need to be the dancing monkey to make it happen.

If it is a good owner he listens to advice from experts instead of pushing his/her ideas.

If the security policy of the company is so strict that employees are unable to install software by themselves on their devices, than it is usually because of good reasons.
Reasons that, imo, would overrule the wish to install software for personal use on a company device.

Also, are you held accountable for the issues that happen with Suuntolink or the watch if something goes wrong?

What if, for instance, a new security measure of the company disrupts the communication between Suuntolink and the watch and the watch responds by asking to reset it.
Some users have seen this with a faulty USB cable (☝) and some users with incorrect USB redirection to a VM.

Can the same owner then blame you for it?

I would strongly advice the owner not to mix personal data with a company device, but I also know company politics doesn’t always work that way.
