Hi all, I think this should be a feature request (or wish). Is anyone of S5 users doesn`t missing some warning or notice when approaching to direction change in navigation. I think that short vibration (visual and sound too) notice 50m before dir. change should be great for running (for cycling 100m). How do you feel about it?

@zbyněk-volný If you have a route loaded and waypoints to mark direction changes you will get a notification. Since there are no maps, a direction change cannot be provided. Use waypoints for this. The distance issue has already been discussed.

@brad_olwin You also get an off-route warning if you wander off 100m.
Would be nice if you get a heads-up if the direction up ahead changes for an amount of degrees

@brad_olwin IMO it’s nonsense to edit POIs to every direction change, especially when you are planning a long bike-ride. But I noticed, that there are bold angled arrows on every direction change on route on navigation face on watches, so this evoked me to think that the fw has to know that the direction change is coming, it’s not depending on maps in watch.

@brad_olwin this is problematic because routes are bi-directional in nature (and that’s a good thing). So you can’t just have a waypoint entitled “left turn” as this will make sense only while traveling from A to B but not longer when doing B to A.

What @Zbyněk-Volný is proposing is a nice idea - to have dynamic waypoints triggered when a path reaches certain degree. So only generate dynamic waypoint when there’s (i.e.) 30 deg difference between 3 points. There would need to be a sane threshold though and I believe it’s a challenge to do algorithmically to be fool-proof and fast enough for the watch to process.

@łukasz-szmigiel I don’t think, that it has to be the watches to do this, it can be imported within the track. When you’re drawing a route in the Suunto App, all suitable turns can be marked automatically, and then the watches doesn’t have to compute anything. But anyway as I wrote before, some of the turn are already marked in the navigation in the watches for some reason and that’s how I get idea to notice me in some way to not to miss the turn :-).

@zbyněk-volný as @Łukasz-Szmigiel said you can follow routes in both directions, and the app cannot know that 😉

@isazi It’s it easy so solve this problem - to every marked turn by the App can be added two subsidiary on-route points (triggers) one 50m in front of the main turn and one 50m behind and this secondary points can trigger the notice. When the sequence is trigger - main point the second trigger is not used. There can be four of this triggers - 50m for running/walking/hiking and 100m for bike-rides. But I am running to the details of something, what is just in my dreams 😀

@zbyněk-volný one of the best things with navigation in Suunto is that it switches direction on the fly - if you decide to turn around or start from the end to start of the original route, the watch will automatically switch direction and guide you according to your decision. This seems obvious but it isn’t in other brands.

Therefore it’s impossible to precompute turns as way points in SA. It would have to be implemented as a dynamic feature. Perhaps as S+ maybe?
