Hi, I’m in the process of creating a new sport mode. However I’ve encoutered some hurdles to do it and I need more information.

      • When I create a new sport mode, for instance running, I have the choice around ~50 different metrics. Some are self explanatory, but for some other I’d like to know what they are exactly showing. Is there any documentation to get the computation methodology of each metric to be sure of what it is measuring ? For instance for the pace I’d like to know how much seconds it takes to compute current pace. I couldn’t find anything on Suunto website.

      • I’d like to know if there is a way to see how are default modes built (ie with which exact metrics) without having to do a trial activity for each one.

      Thank you very much !

@tom I am afraid you ask two questions about Suunto"s top secret information.

I also ask myself what algorithm is behind some datafields. Especially when the data that is shown seems strange or incorrect. But I’m afraid we’re never going to find out.
The best explanation you get is what the datafield is used for. Not how it’s calculated.

And as far as I know there is no overview of the data files in standard sport modes.

@surfboomerang Thank you for your answer.
That’s a shame, how are we suppose to create new sport modes if we don’t know what’s behind the metrics, same for overall monitoring and use of advanced metrics. I guess I’ll gain understanding by trial and error but that’s not really optimal.

@tom What exactly are you looking for?

You can always create custom sport modes with selected datafields. Most are self-explanatory with regards to the value they represent.
How the value is calculated is up to Suunto’s algorithm and I trust they can do this.

do you make the difference between knowing the algorythm of metric calculation (which should/could be secret), AND the meaning of each metric for you to put it on your sportsmode screen ?

I think if we understand units, we understand the metrics
