Display protection label on Suunto 9 Baro ?
-
Hello, i would like to know is there a dislpay protection on the display when buying a new Suunto 9 Baro?
My display backlight is allready 100% and everyting seems very dark and very difficult to read.
I don’t want to scratch on the display on a new watch ;o))
Thank you very much. Regards DM -
@dead-mailbox I ordered a set of 2 screenprotectors on eBay a long time ago. They fit perfectly and are invisible. They also stay in place under water.
-
@dead-mailbox at 100% the screen of the S9 is very bright. I don’t remember if there is of not some film on the screen when in the box, it was too long ago I bought mine.
-
@dead-mailbox it’s sapphire. It does not scratch that easy. Compared to gorillas glass and mobiles and oled screens is much more resistant. I hit my first s9b in the wall so hard that the bezel scratched but the glass didn’t have anything.

@hristijan-petreski True, after more then 2,5 years of intensive use I don’t have a single scratch on my screen. Looks brand new. Nice work Suunto!
-
@surfboomerang yup That’s why people complain about readability because sapphire is less translucent than glass and more reflective. But I will never replace sapphire screen with anything else. I mean it’s the next scratch resistant thing after the diamond

@dead-mailbox So, everything is dark even when the backlight is set to 100%? Can you make sure you don’t have “Do not disturb” mode enabled? Because this darkens the backlight regardless on the settings.
-
@inkognito Thx. But the “do not disturb” mode is not activ ;o(
-
@dead-mailbox I see. The only thing left that comes to my mind is to try to soft reset the watch (press the upper button for ~ 12 seconds).

This post is deleted! -
@inkognito I’m sorry. This didn’t work either
-
@dead-mailbox Can you post a picture of the watch with the backlight on and off?
-
@dead-mailbox
do you have power saving enabled? this dims the backlight, too. -
@dead-mailbox SUUNTO Sapphire is awesome! No protection needed…
-
@mountainchris
I can confirm that. Normally my watches have scratches pretty quick… after more than 1.5 years with my awesome X-Alps: not a single sign of a scratch on the glass -
Thanx to all of you.
I got in contact with the Suunto support.
There is noch protection film / label on new watches.
The support told me to check the same points as mentioned here.
Even a reset changed nothing.
i’m so sorry - but i have to send it back ;o( -
@dead-mailbox you mean to check whether it’s ok? You may have gotten a faulty unit, so try another one maybe. I’ve heard that s9 screen is a tad dimmer than fenix 6’s but I never had an issue with is, my setting is 20% brightness or so.
-
@dead-mailbox Maybe we can tell you if the unit behavior looks ok if you post some pictures of it.
-
@surfboomerang
it’s not so easy as it is dependent on the lights around us. But you’re right, I start here with my comparison pics: 100% backlight and no backlight.
Maybe this helps @Dead-Mailbox ?
I am very happy with the readability of my S9B’s screen
