Has anyone had success (or flat-out not recommend) wearing their watch–any model with HR ability–on the inside of their wrists?

If it works, any suggestions? If you recommend against, why?

      Thanks!

@chrisw Never tried it, but I can imagine that the muscles on the inside of the wrist interfere with the HR sensor accuracy.

Also, besides personal preference, I think wearing the watch on the inside of the wrist is more prone to scratches due to the natural palm-down position of the hands during resting and during activities.

@surfboomerang I would also expect decrease in GPS accuracy, since GPS antenna is under screen and screen is now facing one’s body.

@surfboomerang well us TEAM guys usually wear on inside wrist so im not worried about scratching honestly. Push-ups I find more comfortable as well watch inside of wrist.—I was hoping it would be more accurate with HR as the vessels are on the inside of the wrist.

@DMytro hmm. I didnt think that small switch would also effect GPS, especially with Suunto’s ties to producing military watches.

I was more focused on HR accuracy while doing push-ups, rowing, kettlebells (where they would be laying or impacting back of wrists–no bueno on the watch).

            thanks guys

@chrisw I did a small test for you with the S9P.

Outcome: On both sides the watch records HR pretty consistent in rest. But when I open and close my hand and tighten the muscles, the measurement on the outside of the wrist stays consistent while on the inside it spikes hugely up and down.

              Your mileage may vary however…

@surfboomerang Thanks for running the test. “Huge spikes” isn’t what I was hoping to hear.

                Appreciate you taking the time.

                  hei @chrisw !

I have a Suunto 5 and always keep on the inside because I find more comfty and easier to read the info.
There is a sweet spot where it works perectly, just a bit higher or lower and it goes banana… but you get used to find it.
My position is this (when wearing it, I find it best by pushing the S5 on my torso).

Be aware, it works fine for me while running, if I were to do an activity where the wrist is used, I suppose it would not work nicely due to the muscles and tendons.

Regarding GPS accuracy, no issues here. I just wait 2-3min between getting the satellite and activity starts.

p.s. I bought online screen protectors for scratches and anyway in 70h of activities I never scratched it (I wear it only during activities)

“Sweet spot” noted. My thinking was leading me down a path that slightly higher (towards elbow direction) would be beneficial on inside of wrist…but not TOO high.

                    Thank you.

Interesting, wearing it like this never even occurred to me. Reminds me of an Ironman watch that Timex did years ago that was designed to be worn on the side of your wrist, their logic was that the watchface will be facing you when you are on your aerobars
