Wireless headphones for Suunto 7

Hey folks,

I am wondering if anyone here using their Suunto 7 to play music encounters intermittent / interrupted connection?

I am using a true wireless head phones from Anker (Soundcore Life dot 2) definitely not expensive but is already Bluetooth 5.0. I’ve also encountered the same issue with 2 other true wireless head phones.

Any one facing the same issue? And any good recommendation?

@jed-p I know that one general trick is to have headphones with the antenna on the same side you wear your watch.

@jed-p I’ve used both Aftershokz Aeropex and Sony WF-1000XM3 with no issues whatsoever.

When I first paired the Aftershokz I did so to use them for running and wanted to test the connectivity, so I put my watch in my living room and was able to go upstairs with no dropouts.

I’m using Plantronics Fitbit something (overall a very decent headphones btw) and during my first run with the watch playing music there were same symptoms observed. After I put the watch on my right hand (apparently Bluetooth antenna is in the right ear as well) it works smoothly and stable, no intermittence at all

lots of earbuds can have drop out issues due to drivers being on different sides to where watch is worn, and thus can have bluetooth disconnects/issues.

The other issue I find with earbuds is they can seriously impede you being aware of your surroundings, which depending on where/when you exercise can be an issue.

Sound quality can be good to OK, bit different getting used to it, but once used to it, its pretty good. No disconnects and comfortable to use.

I noticed that Jabra had launched their affordable Elite 3 earbuds and wanted to test these with my Suunto 7. The Jabra Elite 3 earbuds can be used one at a time in mono mode. So I was hoping that this would mean that problems with audio dropouts would be minimal when wearing my Suunto 7 on my left wrist. I got the earbuds, connected them to the watch, started Spotify and went running. The result was lots of dropouts in the earbuds and I was disappointed. It was apparent that the right earbud operates as the primary earbud connecting to the watch and my body from time to time formed a shield between the watch and the right earbud resulting in audio dropouts.

Then I got an idea: What if I just take out the left earbud and let it connect to the watch, start Spotify and then take out the right earbud and see if it connects to left one? In other words, if I can force the left earbud to be the primary earbud connecting to the watch even when both earbuds are being used. So this is what I did before going on a run. The result: Only a few times there were minor dropouts! So if you experience dropouts when using earbuds that can be used one at a time, try to let the left one connect to the watch before activating the right one.
