Suunto 9 not registering start of exercise

Hi all
I appreciate this sounds like a user error but I’ve had this occur a few times now - I navigate to start the appropriate exercise, click ‘start’ and receive a vibration, start the exercise and then at conclusion found the watch didn’t actually start - and it can’t retrospectively recall any of my exercise.
I’ve no idea why it does this, but it is really quite disheartening to put in a good exercise and not have any record.
I appreciate I could wait until the stopwatch and metrics appear, but it’s more that it’s ‘caught me out’ by vibrating so I’ve not realised something is wrong until afterwards. I pretty much never actually look at the watch during the exercise.
Is there something that’s causing this (the ‘lag’ or the vibration I’m misinterpreting), such as a search for GPS, that I could disable?

did you wait for the arrow icon (satellite lock) to stop flashing? -
I didn’t, no - I just clicked on the exercise, and when the start icon appeared against the central button I pressed the button - I received a vibration, but I’ve just checked to make sure I’m not mistakenly remembering and I’m not sure if it is the exercise selection or the start button being pressed which is being confirmed.
I’ll make sure I see the lock stop flashing next time, ta for comment.

if you start the exercise before the arrow is solid, it might never lock satellites and hence messes up your activity recording.
best is even to wait some more seconds after satellites are locked. you’ll hear a notification sound when satellites are locked.
if the issue remains unsolved, please comment again here and we’ll figure it out

@matt-uk in fact @freeheeler is right. However, the question is, what kind of workout are you performing? It is indoor (no GPS needed) or outoddor (GPS required)?
In case of Indoor - please, make sure that in the options for that workout, GPS is disabled. Still, you should wait while HR is locked, if you are using it.
In case of outdoor - follow what @freeheeler suggested.If none of above applies, try to restart the watch. If it happens again, collect logs and send them to Suunto. @isazi is usualy very kind and willing to help with that.

@matt-uk also, is it possible that you mistake the GPS lock (sound and vibration) for the START confirmation (sound and vibration)?

@freeheeler Also, as a follow up to what @freeheeler is saying, it is a good practice to set the watch to the exercise (the screen with the START button) before you actually start the activity. The watch will have the time to lock on the GPS, but also adjust the altitude.
Another idea, before you start your activity, look at the watch if it changed the display. The activity display is usually so different from the watch face that you don’t need to look hard at it; just a glance and you know.
