Hi, I m observing lower than expected HR in sport modes like XC skiing, Roller ski basically during training which requires sticks ( for ski) with belts on the hand.
For example My HR during the rest is about 80 Bpms - when training on XC ski I have 40- 60 Bpm readings with wrist optical sensor. When using external belt HR sensor values are more realistic. My avg HR during XC ski training is 130 to 150 Bpm depending to effort.
I have made several tests using different sport modes and I submitted results to
to tech support about 1 year ago via chat in app, I got answer that they are aware of the problem and they will fix it.
@ S9 B users- have you observed such issues?
@Tech support - When you plan to fix it?

yes this is known and in my opinion is a hardware “issue” that can not be fixed.
The watch size, weight, sensor type etc is not optimal in some cases.

@freeheeler 👍 👍 👍 Thank you, in more details I got answer that this can be fixed in Software so let`s hope that it will be changed.
My tests shown ( during the same conditions on XC ski training - same route same stick belts etc) that XC ski sport mode gives wrong values using wrist sensor and gives real values when using for ex running/ sport mode.
I have also made the opposite test ( not in the winter and without sticks ) I compared HR data results with those sport modes and and the difference was similar.
Moreover when sport mode is turned off, observed HR is close to real during XC ski training.

If you need more accurate heart rate, I suggest you to use belt sensor.

            The OHR has physical limitation.

@Łukasz-Rodziewicz-Cygan The OHR on the 9baro never worked for me during running or Ski Touring. It worked fine as long as I was not exercising. I only use a belt with the baro and I doubt it can be fixed. The newer watches have a different sensor and for many but not all work much better.

@Brad_Olwin yep, love my S9B but OHR is terrible for anything other than hiking or walking. Hence I always use a belt. It may be the size since I also have a Forerunner 245 (42mm) that is almost always to the beat equal to my Polar H10. It just isn’t built anywhere near the tank that is the Baro.
