S9 Baro ascent recording issue
-
I’m sorry to come with this again BUT: I sent my watch to the assistance and they changes my sensor bcause when climbing uphill the watch was recording a lot of descent drops that were not there. This sunday went back backcountry skiing and I had literally never climbed down, just uphill all the way to the peak. The watch (at my wirst, on skin) was recroding every now and then some 100mt drops whci made impsosible to calculate a proper ascent speed as the actual ascent meters. The altitude was always correct though. One thing, once Ive put on my wirst but on top of the jackt (so not in contact with my skin) it never recorded altitude drops. Is it possible that a very expensive watch makes these kind of mistakes once in cotact with the skin? My suunto 7 was not doing that. It sounds ridicouls that I have to chise between monitoring my heart beat (in cinatct with the sikn) or choosing the altitude gain… do you now if the 9 peak is kind of more updated on this kind of issue? Thanks

@giuliosq is it a s9 or s9b? Havé you update it With suunto link?

@giuliosq This looks to me like you are blocking the baro holes doing a pump effect.
In the S9B the baro holes are in the opposite side of the buttons. If you use poles you can easily block the holes and do the pump effect with your skin (more if you wear the watch in your right arm). For that reason when you put the watch over the jacket you don’t have this effect (that you could have too if the jacket block the holes). I’m pretty sure that the ascent drops are all the sudden not in a time range and also explains that in stationary the altitude is correct. The solution to your case is probably wear the watch in a bigger distance over the wrist in the right arm or a bit more loose in the left one. In my case I don’t see this effect, I always wear it over my skin, and I have thin wrists and never use poles but my running partner (with a S9B and thin wrists too) wearing the watch in the right arm can have this these drops when he wears the watch too loose and close to the hand.
S7 and S9B have different position of the baro holes with their advantages and disadvantages.

@André-Faria the baro one yes… and Ive updatetd it all. Consider that the sensor has just been changed by the assistance. But since some days the altitude can’t be self-regulated, the gps automation for altitude and barometer are not working

@cosme-costa Thanks! very precise. So… I have a 9 Baro and wear it on the right arm. Ive tried outting it loos and be very careful of not blocking the sensor. And as you sadi the drops are imemdiate, yes. Anyways… since couple days the altitude self regulation is not working anymore… it is super starnge, the GPS works properly to follow tracks but when you use it for regulating altitude is not working. Even the barometer does not tell datas anymore. I left it outside in the gardne for soem hours on self regulation mode, no blockings, no obstacles around. The GPS altitdue is not working as the barometer… I have to put altitude manually. I just got it back from assistace and they changed the sensor. Dont know what to do. If the barometer does not work it is useless to have a S9 Baro, I’d rather buy a simple GPS one with no altitude drops and so on…

@giuliosq With a rebooth it actually worked the GPS issue…
