I’m starting to see the dreaded screen burn on my S7. It isn’t awful, but is very noticeable on the lighter screens such as starting an activity, or Google Maps. It’s annoying as my screen is only ever illuminated for 5 seconds, but it seems to be the activity screen which has caused the damage because it is always on. And this can’t be changed I don’t think?

The watch is in warranty until November this year and by all accounts Suunto support are quite amenable to honouring it. Have many people done this and what are your thoughts? Did you get a new watch or a repair?

I also wonder if it is likely to get any worse? I love the S7 but I wouldn’t buy another as the battery life is too restrictive. Yes I can always get a (long) day out of it, but for such a feature packed watch I find myself nervous to use the features for fear of the battery usage!

I will probably send it back soon before the warranty expires, and see how I get on with a new one, but I think as time goes by a longer battery will draw me towards a different model.

@sartoric Thank you, I have seen both those threads from last year but they don’t necessarily answer my questions and I was wondering whether anyone had any more up to date experiences.

@quattrojames 2 years in and no screen burn yet. I do turn the screen off though once I start an exercise unless I’m use maps etc. I get a day and a half battery life, so still way better than an Apple Watch. For longer days out/away I usually use my S9B though. Good luck!

Thank you. I have started to turn the exercise screen off now - too little too late! Given I probably only record activities for an hour a day on average it wasn’t something I had thought of as being necessary, plus it’s a pain as the whole point of having such a legible display is to be able to see the data on the screen!

I can probably get a day and a half out of it, but I generally recharge every evening as it fits my routine.

@quattrojames Good morning, what I do to recover a little, is from “Developer Options - Options to develop Wear” frame the option of “Force screen protection against burns”. Not that it’s a miracle, but something is noticeable when I reset the clock. It seems that every time you reset the watch you have to recheck the option for the next time.

I have a related question. I was looking at the calendar complication on the right of my screen and was monitoring the amount of pixel shifting that occurs. I noticed that some of the pixels are always white because the image doesn’t shift enough: the complication icon is quite large. Has anyone noticed burn-in from using AOD or is the screen too dim to cause that?

And that is why it is also recommended to regularly change watch faces. I have about 5-6 that are quite different on all my AMOLED watches that I have owned, and continue to do so. I don’t have a set schedule but always change at least between weekday and weekend.

All my screen burn has come from the exercise screen rather than the watch faces.

@judnoe I have enabled that, thanks. Probably too late now but hopefully I might see an improvement.

@quattrojames You have to restart it, redial and restart, and so a couple of times, check if the screen improves.
