Replied also to the other thread.

Strangely at open water I get some flats with the belt. Reported it.

@johan6504 Not until next watch update. I saw this in the WatchuSeek forum where a member reported an issue with highHR or dropouts and Suunto send him an email acknowledging a software problem that will be fixed.

I have this issue too. Sometimes, at the middle of some run, the HR increases suddenly over 230/240/250 HR and after a while it drops to the correct values. It is like you add some offset to the HR data. Some times it happens even 2 or three times in a run. I thought it was related to some movement of the belt but it isn’t because I’ve tighten it till the point it has brushed my skin and some times I got the same issue. I also thought the belt was damaged, but it is quite new, from March, or even it was related to some new polyester T-shirts I bought but then it happened with the old ones which the ones I haven’t had the issue.

Anyway, it is good to know that it is a software issue, Suunto is aware of it and they will solve it.

@cosmecosta I think this has been hard to get at because it is not happening to everyone. Very rare for me. I have an older sensor.

@cosmecosta for the high readings its usually something bad with the belt. The watch AFAIK does not do it. I had those and with saliva at the belt instantly it was fixed

My belt is two weeks old, bought a new since I do a lot more swimming now.
My Polar H10 never skipped a beat during the last year, but on the other hand it cant handle swimming…
If Suunto cant handle it maybe Polar will have a solution for it in October 😉

The problem is that I do not see the spikes until I finish my run. @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos do you mean that you use saliva instead of water with the belt and the spikes are gone?

Before I have the SSU I had a Ambit 3 Vertical with which I never had this problem (it was more than a year and I only changed the battery after 11 months). I have to say that the strap with the Vertical looked better than the one in the SSU with half of its life, for that reason, yesterday I ordered a new strap.

Here, you can see one of the spikes that I’m talking about, is from today’s run. This one has a spike (high area) that arribes to 217 bpm but other times has arrived to near 240 or even more. This only happens from time to time but lately is happening more often.

This is a known Suunto sensor problem that the company does not want to admit. I was advertising the sensor and received a new one which is slightly different than the old one, it is currently testing and I will see what will happen.

It’s belt issue not the sensor. Suunto send me 3 complete in 12 months.
I bought a Polar H10 but i use the Suunto for triathlon. The internal memory of H10 is not supported buy Suunto watch.

@Mi_chael I also thought that it is always a belt, change 2 in 1 year. Lately sensor too. HR remains frozen or watch stop receiving HR data. Relocating the battery on the fly sometimes helps, but it fails again and again. Today I opened repair ticket. I’m fed up 😞

                            Folks,

It might be a weird question but may I ask if the Smart Sensor works while swimming?

Once I connected my watch and smart sensor and get into the water. When I check my HR. I could only see wrist HR value.

Is there an issue with my sensor?

                            Thanks,

The smart sensor works under water.
It just does not transmit the data in real time since Bluetooth radio frequencies don’t travel through water.
This is why the smart sensor has memory built in to store the heart rate data internally during your activity.
Just make sure watch and sensor are out of the water when stopping the activity - then the heart rate data will be sent to the watch.

btw: I found it difficult to keep the chest belt in place during pushing off of the wall… If you use a wet suit it will work better.

Plus I am not sure how to select the chest belt as a HR source in favor of the wrist sensor (I own a Spartan Ultra without wrist sensor and it works perfectly)

@Egika Thank you for the clarification.

I am not sure about choosing the HR source but I think when chest strap is connected it is prioritized. If there is no chest strap then wrist HR is measured.

                                      I wonder how that works.
If you select activity without HR then neither OHR nor the belt will be recorded. If you select with HR then only OHR will be showing the values. But does the belt overwrite OHR values later? Then it wouldn’t make sense that for swimming OHR is active…?! Should be a toggle instead of automatic recognition.
I don’t use it in the water but I’d like to know because of interest.

…by the way, I like the automatic recognition 👍

@TELE-HO @Egika If you start the activity with the belt on, the belt will have priority and if the signal is lost the belt will cache (it can record 2-3h of HR data) and resync with the watch (i.e. when you get out of the water). If you take the belt off during the activity there will be no HR recorded as it does not switch to OHR. I often start gym activities with the watch and belt and leave my watch in the locker, when I return the HR data are synced to the activity.

Now still the question is open why the wrist sensor starts flashing during an activity that was started with the chest sensor…?!
