I just did a short workout on the crosstrainer without starting an activity in the Suunto Wear app. The 20 minutes were recognised as “walk” in Google Fit on the smartphone and the title and activity type can be edited. And distance and steps are equal to the earlier workouts recorded with the Suunto 7 or Spartan Ultra. [image: 1619777550139-screenshot_2021-04-30-12-07-45-051_com.google.android.apps.fitness.jpg]

@jamie-bg i did see that post from Google (although after my other posts on here). I’m inclined to believe a bit of both of them, but also think that they are both covering their own backsides. Yes, it is likely that the 3100, 4100, and 4100+ can run WearOS 3. But will they run it well? If a watch runs it badly then it will damage the reputation of the OS and the hardware. In fact, WearOS 3 could be dead on arrival if too many devices run it badly. Obviously Google wants as many devices as possible to run it, but they want, no, they NEED it to run perfectly. This is likely their last chance to take on the Apple Watch and if all of the initial reviews are that it runs like a dog then it’s game over. Consumers won’t take into consideration that the hardware is old, they will see the headlines that WearOS 3 is slow and that will be it. Qualcomm however, don’t care two hoots about WearOS (i think that have become obvious over the years). All they care about it selling chips, saving reputation, and saying they are market leaders. So if their older chips are no longer supported then it hurts them as a company. Qualcomm would put WearOS 3 on every chip they ever made if they thought it would benefit them, but sod the customer, as long as it makes them money. Google want (and again, NEED) WearOS to run perfectly, so they should be pushing for it on only the absolute best hardware. As good as the 3100 is and as good a job Suunto have done with it (which they really have!), it is old, slow and power hungry. There is no point having the amazing Suunto App if the OS underneath it is running slow due to the hardware. IF (and it’s a big if) the 3100 can run WearOS 3 well then I would expect Suunto to support the S7 for quite a while yet. However, if it runs with even the slightest lag then Suunto need to keep the S7 on WearOS 2 and get a new model out ASAP. As I mentioned before, the average consumer already considers the TWP3 better than the S7 purely based on it having the 4100 (despite there being no notable improvement in having that chip). The S7 is already over 18 months old, so is long in the tooth in the tech world. I personally think a 2 year cycle for something like this is perfect, as it allows each iteration to have noticeable improvements and ensures support from manufacturer. However if Suunto are too late to the WearOS 3 party then they could lose out on sales. A newer S7 (whatever it may be called) with Samsung silicone, better battery life, reduced bezel, lighter, slimmer, etc with still the Suunto smarts inside (and with continued updates) could be the WearOS device to beat and with proper advertising (and a sensible price unlike the S7 at launch!) could take a serious chunk of the market. Just my thoughts for this wet and soggy British morning

@trinitao the question about the overlay can be answered by Suunto only. I used the S7 for a few weeks without any Suunto apps and services (all disabled via ADB). I just used Ghostracer to record my rides. In this time I recognised that the sync with Google Fit and the shown data are correct and nothing is missing. From a Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 2020 I knew that there was an overlay too which can be disabled to speed up the watch. So I let the salmon.overlay disabled after reenabling all Suunto stuff. No problems and nothing is missing in the S7 functions up to the moment.

@mff73 said in Bumpy and inaccurate altitude data with new Suunto 7: @themrdjj said in Bumpy and inaccurate altitude data with new Suunto 7: @brad_olwin They are from a program called GPXSee. I first download the initial gpx file from Strava, then I apply the correction on strava.com and redownload the gpx file. Hi, I read again this post, and this last answer makes me feel that we never see your real Suunto data only strave and GPXsee representation, with some gpx export. Do you have a QS account ? or any other account where you can view the “real” data from Suunto fit file ? or eventually share a suunto app link of an activity of yours with the issue, and experts may have a look at them. Agreed! We need to see the original data.

@aleksander-h said in April is Coming ! (S7): @metalmi said in April is Coming ! (S7): Fossil said the Gen 5 (with Snapdragon Wear 3100) is in line for Wear OS 3. This information apparently came from Fossil customer support who are frequently wrong on these kind of things. That’s why we didn’t get any info for a year, haha

@jamie-bg Okey, I nevermind used the DND in quick settings. The slider does the job alright and without any settings issue like you describe.

@BinoWorld-UK said in Increased battery drain: I can now confirm that after using my S7 for 2 years with location from phone and watch always enabled, the last three have been an eye opener. Since disabling this feature as well as Auto WiFi, the S7 battery now is insanely good I agree with you. I’ve got in the habit of turning the location on in the watch before my first work out, and flicking it off again at the end of the day. The battery has now dropped to between 20-40% after 24 hours so easily lasts the day I need out of it. Turning location on/off is no harder than enabling airplane/cinema mode which I do before/after my sleep. I’ll maybe try the Auto Wi-Fi too as the watch is always connected to my phone via bluetooth anyway.

@optics-field-test You need the app on both phone and watch and on the watch you need to be in the developer mode with ADB debugging enabled. I think the phone and watch connect via wifi. I don’t think the watch needs to be connected to the phone via the Wear OS app. Anyway, let’s hope it doesn’t need to.

What I really hate is autolap in running mode after each km. When I look at the watch during the running usually there is summary of previous km. I have to wait about 5 sec to see real data. Realy annoying

@jantikainen looking around the web yesterday, I don’t think Google actually ever said it would. I’ve seen articles state it, but never seems to be part of an actual statement from Google, so not sure where may/june timeline came from.

@Maryn - I use SyncMyTracks to sync across my strength training as the google fit version i am on is superb (not sure if on latest version for wear os, but suspect may not be as some people say a recent update has nerfed it - while others saying it hasn’t).

Agree. Most of mine are walking or paddling, so nothing major speed wise - usually under 6km/hr. And yes occasionally you hit the odd bump/hiccup, but generally find the track is easily within the river/canal while paddling, and while the walking track my wander slightly from side to side on the road, it virtually always gets it right. I occasionally get the odd bump /hiccup - maybe one in 5/6 tracked activities. Don’t foget that GPS fixes are normally only accurate to around 5m - so even with great fix to numerous satellites, still not going to be perfect.

@jamie-bg said in S7 - Distance/speed is off on the Running workouts: @olymay whatever you do, try not to make any alterations/ update the house - super super super painful. Yeah, we made a few changes not long after moving in and regretted most of it (it’s all worked out in the end, but as you say it was considerably more painful than it needed to be!). Just going to make it sellable now and hopefully move in the new year. And then I can start work on my home gym
