@thanasis Galileo is very precise, but sometimes the earth stations are not enough to provide precise hephemeris and monitor the satellites, and when you don’t know the position of the satellites very precisely, you may end up with these kind of errors (among others).

To be honest and adding to Isaz’s answer, I was very enthusiastic about Galilleo. The thing is that 1/20 or less it has those offsets.

For me it looks like a race of giving no position at all vs giving some offset position.

That said I am very enthusiastic about dual freq GPS as well 😉

@thanasis s9pp does not have dual frequency either (it is a hw limitation/decision, so it’s not like dual frequency can be enabled with software).

Moar precision! Moar satellites! And cell towers for calculating the coordinates! And starlink! And dead reckoning! And the head wobble offset.

And then we’ll discuss how the position should be calculated as it shows the watch position and not its user. Which is, apparently, terrifyingly useless for sports. Such poor precision, that is.

Truth is most of us would be cool with current precision and around 10 - 15s fix.

Technology is awesome, it’s inspiring to see how much data can we extract from such small devices, but then where’s the fun in sports if we’re getting overwhelmed by the data and its precision?

I think for where you run dual frequency may matter. There are typically few trees and no tall buildings where I run so I do not see differences but……you sparked my memory. I think I was still testing the S9P. But, here is a comparison of the Epix2 running dual band with the 9Peak in Utah slot canyons. Here the dual band made a huge difference.

did anyone ask if there was updated recently? You may know that there is a daily file with some adjustments that sony is sending to alltheir chipsets throw the apps… so it’s very recommended to sync mobile/watch everyday…

I do that multiple times per day 🙂

To my understanding not synching the watch results in longer gps lock times . Offset of that magnitude is the first time I come across at.

@thanasis While commuting I am getting through the same road, with the same watch 🙂 Although haven’t noticed any issues. I have noticed though in other cases some offset, also with Garmin GPS handled device, but I reckon it’s a matter of GPS signal quality, satellite availability, weather and surrounding conditions that for some reason or another can differ on some days or moments. I recall days on hiking where the return route is even on the exact same steps and the final route shows difference between go/back ways. I think the last to blame is the software in this case. Anyway, I second @Łukasz-Szmigiel, and wouldn’t be that much bothered in such not life/death situations 😄

Usually I am not concerned about inaccuracies but this time we are talking about a lot and following an activity which doesn’t use GPS (indoor tennis) .
Anyway , I treat this as a random thing and will monitor it for the future.
                                  thanks
