Resume later

@ADidier it does not.
-
@isazi Can we expect to see this useful function any time soon?

There was a forum thread on a new survey. In that survey was a question regarding resume later. I would imagine if enough demand it could be implemented. Here is the survey thread. If it is still open fill in your preferences. https://forum.suunto.com/topic/8709/new-survey-new-features-and-improvements-what-do-you-need
-
@Brad_Olwin I consider this function a part of the basic watch functionality and I was surprised when I couldn’t find it in the pause menu. If Suunto couldn’t be bothered to implement such an essential functionality, I rest my case.
-
@skifun as much as I thought I would need it when I moved from Garmin to Suunto, I realized I didn’t. I ask for it in surveys, mostly as something nice to have, but not consider it anymore as necessary. Like, I haven’t used it in more than 4 years now, and I am still alive, and doing more sport than before
-
@isazi its always going to be use case based like anything. If you hike/cycle a lot with a family it can be a very useful function when stop off to have lunch (and or snacks) and you know you are going to be hanging around for +5 mins…
-
@isazi I use it every single day and, yes, I needed it and I’m shocked that customers have to ask for such a basic function in surveys. Unbelievable.
-
@skifun it would seem polar doesn’t have it too. And Coros only has this in a limited number of activities that can be done as multi day activities - probably also not your use case?
-
@Jamie-BG sure, different people have different use cases. As I said, I thought I would miss it when switched from Garmin, but I didn’t. If before when stopping to have lunch in a hut I would do resume later, now I just pause the activity. I know, the watch will consume some battery, more than with resume later, but battery life today is not the issue it was 5 years ago for me.
-
@DMytro I don’t use Coros and Polar, so I don’t know about them. My primary watch has this function and it works like a charm. As I’m writing now I’m with a paused activity which I’m going to resume in 30 minutes. No need to have the gps searching for satellites when I’m inside.
-
As someone who never used this kind of feature when I was with Garmin and never considered this as something I’ve wanted in the years since, what is the use case for a long-pause activity function? I genuinely don’t know.
It would seem that taking a 30+ minute break, let alone a few hours’ break, before resuming an activity would drastically change how your body responds to the stress of exertion, making it more appropriate to register these as separate activities rather than as one long one.
-
@skifun I was just trying to say that since other watches have no / limited implementation of the feature, it means that the feature itself is not basic, don’t you think?
But I understand the need for this feature and I also voted for it in the survey.
-
@TrailEyes 30 minutes break during a simple city walk doesn’t change anything for me. So, yes I prefer to resume it later than record separate activities separated with 30 minutes window. And that’s how I do it. Very simple function. If need it, use it, if you don’t need it don’t use it. For me it’s unbelievable that this function is not present in my 9pp.
-
@TrailEyes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you want your multi-day hike for convenience to be stored as one activity - I totally get that.
If I make a lunch break for a single-day hike I also have no desire to start two different activities tbh. -
@DMytro Yes, I definitely believe it’s a basic function. If I liked Coros or Polar I would’ve bought a watch from them. Still, voting for such a simple function is a nonsense. It should be in the watch.
-
“Resume later” would be a useful feature to be able to resume activity if you finish it accidentally (or if the watch reboots and finishes the activity itself…).
That feature is included in Garmin watches, isn’t it?
-
@skifun Thanks. I always appreciate understaing how other people use devices, especially if they’re different than mine.
-
When I did a 4-day hike last summer using S9P, I’d have loved this “Resume later” feature.
Just because how nicer is it to see it as a single multi-day activity in Suunto App rather than 4 separate ones.
I’ve lived this hike as a single aventure, and I’d rather have this reflected within SA (the “source of truth” when it comes to my sport activities).
Using pause is not practical when pause lasts for several hours/a night because when I was not moving, I wanted to use the rest of the watch features which is not possible in pause mode.
Is there already a feature suggestion in the forum that I can upvote? -

True, I found (and upvoted) this one: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/1072/concatenation-of-multiple-moves-in-single-one/
