Alpine Climbing/Mountaineering Elevation Gain Issued

Wondering if I’m having a user error issue or a watch issue. I’ve had the Peak 9 and now a peak 9 pro with the same problem. When recording alpine climbing or mountaineering my recorded activity does crazy things with my elevation gain. Every time I record an activity like this my elevation gain will jump up several thousand feet and my end result will be way off. I’ve tried recording in different modes with the same outcome. Most recently did 7,000 ft of gain in the Tetons, watch recorded 10,500. However, when I look at the gps map profile it appears accurate and when I upload to Strava and have it adjust elevation it is spot on. Is there something I’m doing wrong or a setting I can adjust for these activities? My altimeter is correct throughout the activity every time I look.

@kdawnz Most likely cause in my experience: GPS accuracy near mountains, deep valleys and rock faces is poor. The location fix jumps around and the elevation data from the GPS does the same. It seems, Suunto is unable to filter the ghost peaks. I’ve seen this issue since the Ambit 3 Peak. Quite embarrassing that Suunto was not able to fix this by now. It should be quite easy, because the elevation gains and drops are dramatic and not humanly possible. Nothing you can do about it.

9 peak and pro are barometric altitude measurements, corrected potentially by GPS, if reception is good enough.@kdawnz
If not a watch issue (could be possible, but unlikely with two different units), it might come from environment : watch under sleeves? Lots of wind? Watch under water some times? Whatever could affect baro measure where the sensor is behind some little holes. -
@Mff73 agree, nothing to do with GPS, most certainly environmental: snow blocking the baro sensor, strong wind, gloves or other barrier blocking the baro sensor, etc.
I did many mountaineering activities in the Alps with S9P and S9PP without this happening, so it is not because of the sport mode.
