No-Map-Problem

Agree that having names on maps is important. I and others I am sure have voiced this and it is an obvious issue. I hope that we see progress on this as well.
I’m with you guys on that point. Maps on the vertical are great and reactiv, but some friends of mine have garmin’s and I must admit that maps details and the way zoom works are also brilliant.
-
@Tieutieu I had an Epix2 for nine months purchasing one immediately after release. I found the maps were slow and often difficult to use on the fly. Even with less information selected the maps are quite crowded and slow to respond. I had issues with loaded routes that I could go into in detail if you wish. Newer hardware may work better but I was not happy with the maps.
Suunto’s maps are much easier to read and much, much more responsive. I would like to see names added but not at the cost of making the maps extremely slow. I imagine that something is being done her (my opinion only) and I am confident adding names, etc will be done so not to compromise the ability to use maps on the fly.

@Brad_Olwin Been using 7XSS for well over than 20 months now. Maps are done very well and work pretty good for me. Indeed, maps help me so much, they are one of the main reasons, among other things, why I bother buying Fenix. Nothing cluttered at all. In the mountains they are extremely useful for what I do. I even buy on day one of my purchase licensed maps, although one can find tons of free maps on the Internet.
I keep following this no-map thread, as I’m eagerly waiting to see this sorted out asap. -
I’m so glad I still have my Epix 2 for my holiday.
Suunto Support has been absolutely unhelpful so far. At this point, I’d recommend against buying the Suunto Vertical / Suunto products.

But did you find epix 2’s map is slow?
-
I bought some Talky Toaster maps for my Epix 2 (which I can wholeheartedly recommend). It’s slower, yes, but considering what an actually routable map brings to the table, it’s no contest really.
-
@Ilya-Sul Still nothing from Suunto Support, even after another e-mail. After this whole debacle, I’ll say goodbye to Suunto, I think.
-
@Ilya-Sul hard to read the whole 200+ messages here, could you describe your problem again?

That’s all that shows up. Needless to say, that’s not what my hometown looks like.
My federal state’s map’s been broken since I reset my watch. I tried everything. I can’t fix it, no matter what I reset, re-download or restart. I did everything more than once. There’s no fix on my end.
-
@Ilya-Sul could you share state name and location? Here or DM me
-
Pavel’s helped me to resolve the issue. ️
-
@Ilya-Sul Great. Unfortunately it’s not complete solution, there still could be border issues, I’ll share here when we fix the issue fully.

that is great.
I have asked you like 3 weeks ago about in which state this is happening. Could have solved this earlier
But great you got it working.Same issue I kept having at the boarder from Hamburg to adjacent stated of Niedersachsen and Schleswig-Holstein

Yes, but as I said: On a public forum, I don’t want to disclose my location any more than I have to.
The thing is that it would’ve been Suunto Support’s job to solve this with me, but they didn’t, like at all. So while I’m very grateful to the Suunto dev(s) on the forum, I’m bummed that going through the official channels turned out to be a such waste of time.
-
@Ilya-Sul
you are right, support should be able to solve it for you.
still this is what the forum is there for: helping users out.
no need to disclose your location in public, private message does it as well. -
Hey everyone. It’s hard to go through everything, and each issue is a bit different. Would anyone be able to let me know the recommended steps if I keep having the no-map issues? It seems to happen randomly where some map squares don’t show at 200m and closer. The map shows at 500m resolution but with less detail than normal for this resolution. I tried the soft reboot multiple times, and it seems to resolve the issue, but it always comes back after a while.
Is this a known issue, and should I just wait for the next fw update? Or should I redownload my maps? Anything else I can do?
The issue does not seem to be related to a specific map or location. I’m in Czechia most of the time, but I had the issue even when traveling to Austria.
-
@Honza As far as I know a reboot works as a workaround. A solution should be provided with a firmware update.
-
So I have this issue with the new firmware.
When this happened, whole interface started lagging. But my exercise continued.
In the end, after “feeling” screen, I got stuck on “Saving…”
But I was not really stuck… When I swiped “back”, it took me back to feeling… I went back and forth several times and then tried to press the middle button several times. Then my watch rebooted…
I have sent logs and will be happy to provide details!
Interestingly, after the firmware update, I noticed that there’s something weird in that location when I tried the 2km zoom and paned map to that location. I saw tiles and my watch became very slow. When I returned to watch screen, it showed this:
(info on the top is clearly missing)When I checked the Suunto app, watch appeared to be busy… I restarted my watch and things went back to normal, until I checked that place on map again and the whole thing repeated. So, no, reboot does not work for me…
I will try to redownload the map and check again…
EDIT: I deleted the map and downloaded again. When I use 2km zoom, I have no-map problem in multiple locations. When this happens, after I exit the map, watch becomes slow and restarts occasionally… Before it restarts, when I check SA, I can see “Watch is busy” state (I hope that it at least tries to send some error report to Suunto).
Since there is still no backup for custom sport modes or settings, I do not really want to try the hard reset immediately… Could someone try to pan on the map with 2km zoom and report that it works alright on other device (even when you pan very far etc)?
-
@inkognito could you send me your location in PM?
-
In 2 km zoom I can pan to the border of the downloaded map. There the map changes to black squares (shown in your first picture). I don’t know if this will help …
