So, not to be a Debby downer, but I’ve heard some Verticals have been known to crash during an activity.

I’m just trying to plan ahead, in the event during the NYC Marathon it happens to me.

      So, my key questions…

      • If in an activity, such as running, does all the progress just cancel?

      • Does the watch freeze, becoming unresponsive?

      • Is there a quick way to get it back up and running?

      • Does there tend to be a specific action that’s causing it to happen, or is it random?

      • Lastly, how common is it really? I’ve seen about 5-6 reports of it,

      Thank you!

Before thinking of worst, I highly encourage you to take it from the positive side : most SV users have no issues.

And the SV is just very precise and accurate (instant pace and gps tracks). Also features like « snap to route » could interest you for your race.

My own experience is 6 month of intense use (more than 200 various exercices, around 2500km and 70km elevation). It has never crashed even once. Had few issues but nothing ruining anything.
The only time I had an issue during an activity was on an ultra trail last year with my S9b : I accidentally stopped the activity and had to start another one in middle of the race.
It has made me learn that the first thing to do is to be focused on my race instead of on my watch !

So I can’t answer all your questions !😊

If your watch was to crashed during your race, I’m pretty sure that nothing will work to save or resume your race recording.

But honestly, you would be very unlucky to experiment this….

Never had a crash either, or any issue for that matter. Yesterday I did a 40km 3.5hr run and as per usual it performed flawlessly

I think that for all of the people that have experienced regular crashes versus the amount of SV’s that have been sold, it is likely to be a small percentage. Not to discount the crashes but I feel like you would be pretty unlucky if you’re getting them regularly

@Andrewx01 If it’s an important race, what I do to be on the safe side is I power it down and do a restart the night before (via the Vertical menu option for Power Off), restart right away, pair with SA, and if maps are important hit the Map button while outside to make sure maps are rendering ok.

I have no data on why this works for me, but does seem to give me some peace of mind.

Never had mine crash yet on a race or long run. I have a 100 mile race Friday and am trusting my Vertical. The watch will reboot and you can start over, it may take some time to acquire GPS. The watch should save the past activity and you can join them with a site or app that allows this. I think Vertical crashing is very rare.

@mikekoski490 just to understand : are you doing that because you’ve experimented several crashes yourself ?

@Tieutieu Just one several months ago. Vertical just stopped my workout and noticed I was suddenly on the main screen. I just restarted the trail run. I had the no map problem but on restart and reconnect with SA maps were back.
