Today I had a solid route, a solid pace, almost 3000m of climbing in good time. Of course, as befits a Suunto, the watch had to fail halfway through the route. Total freeze. This is my 4th Suunto watch, but patience is running out.

This should not happen and I agree unacceptable! Can you tell us more? S+ apps? HR belt and manufacturer? What is happening when crash occurs? Vertical? Battery mode? Did you send logs ASAP after? It so, PM me with time logs sent, date and your email for SA login.

Thanks for using that expression, I learned something new! For the German speakers here, arte TV explained it.

Rather than the sarcastic comment or rolling of eyes, you could have just asked or read the very first post in this thread.

Then you would se that, despite having the largest screen of virtually any sports watch, you cannot enlarge the data fields to 2 per page. Even the big numbers is poor as you cannot change to data fields to anything suitable such as average pace.

Just written down in an another thread…

How does this help Suunto to troubleshoot the problem if I am not able to tell to Suunto what was my problem? Maybe an app update introducing the possibility to highlight the problem will be useful…

Now I have to sent logs and then search, here, for someone “inside” Suunto and tell her/him what was the problem. Not very efficient…😅

Well, that time again to say it would be very much appreciated if people on here could write more of their experience in the first person. Perhaps this person could re-phrase slightly differently since, In my experience, Ive done hundres of workouts for several years with this current line of Suunto watches (Peak to Vertical to Race), from hot weather to freezing, with ZERO failures ‘halfway through’ a workout.

How about "In my opinion, and in my experience, Suunto watches with great hardware have shitty software?* Why dont you just own your own opinion. Be bold.

Why do Suunto watches with great hardware have to have such shitty software?

So I started this thread and have put my positives in the very first post, along with my frustrations. It is so much better than an Epix (or Fenix to that matter) in many ways, not least its form. But it does have some serious limitations.

I have never had any issue with crashing, stopping midway etc and I really like the SR. I’m now awaiting the next update (I think next month) before buying a Garmin again.

It sounds a little bit dictatorial, isn’t it? Overlooking the strong-adjective-that-hurts-feelings, then, if ninety-nine people have watches working properly, the one with the bugged one has to change his mind because of the others?

Apologies, I’ve probably come across as a bit passive aggressive in the my last 2 posts.

To reiterate, we’re taking about the Suunto Race on this thread and I really do like the watch but it is frustrating when, whilst it has the best pace accuracy, it stays on the current mile pace when it laps in an interval session. Oh any battery life is immense along with the size/form. Interval planning is v good as is route making.

                    However

It doesn’t notify laps whilst the watch is in DND mode.
It’s exceptionally limited in terms of changing data screens.

I can’t wear glasses whilst running, so I’ve always used 2 data’s per screen which was perfectly usable. The SR doesn’t do this and, I believe, this isn’t a big software tweak to sort.

SPO2 - most important at night yet you cannot see it or any history of it. Gimmick?

Race predictions - there one minute, gone the next. CTL issues I couldn’t care less about.

And yes, these are the issues personal to me.

Steps seem to be a lot more in keeping with Garmin (I wear both) and SR was 760 behind after a 20 mile run. I’ll take that.

I’m praying some of these are fixed in the next update (or in the very least the date field don’t sizes).

Ps, I’d love a Parkrun barcode on it 😂

@Matúš Not sure ‘dictatorial’ posts start with ‘Perhaps…’ lol. I have no way of deleting posts that are hyperbolizing. Also, what ‘strong adjective’ are you referring too?

I think you arent quite getting what Im suggesting - which is it would be nice if people can post that their particular experience is their opinion. If you are the 1 person in 99 with an issue, making a statement that because of your singlular experience, Suunto is a crap company, is unfair…in my opinion.

@mikekoski490 It’s best to do what you and others here, all volunteers / mods, do: Ask questions and get details to help assist. And then direct them to methods of contacting support.

Otherwise it spins into unproductive discussion. Which is what I see a lot in Garmin Forums, Reddit, etc. It’s the reality. But I think for the most part all the volunteers here are doing great work to help.

@cosme-costa my expectations are based on price tag of similar brands, and their timely updates.

I agree updates may not be always needed. But with new products like the Race, things like freezing and race predictions should really be fixed by now.
(You wouldn’t buy an phone on launch and be okay with the camera not working for a few months after, and even with you were. Everyone’s use case is different and you buy the device based on the features listed in a products description during purchase)

I’m not asking for a overhaul of every feature.

Things that have been asked for years in the community poll area and your vote matters section, that have not been addressed. Even though the majority of the posts with the most interactions(votes) have never been addressed.

I support suunto and think there products are great and for the best part do the job the product is supposed to do. But bugs and voted features should really be addressed in my opinion.

Some communication from staff on bugs or a comment on if a voted feature will be developed or not would do well to adjust user expectations. If not it would probably be best to remove the “your vote matters” in the features area.
(Not taking away from the volunteers on the forum, these individuals do a great job)

Also most comments should be kept constructive.

@landlord4714 exactly. No bug fixing (or better to say NO communication from Suunto) is what frustrate the most. You never knows whether, when with basic functionality. And it is ongoing approach for many, many years. I’m just not sure, why, not sure what is the problem to have public schedule for bug fixies, features etc. Anyhow, I’m always with Suunto, but all glasses can filled. Mine is 99.8% full.

So my final post, and hopefully the Mods can shut this thread. Picked up a Fenix 7x Sapphire from CEX today. Grade C so wasn’t expecting much but it was boxed, and just one deep scratch on the bezel about 3mm long. £355 with a 2 year warranty and having a watch I can now use without having to wait for updates.

Suunto Race is a really good watch, just sold on eBay for £287 so a £120 after fees loss.

Take care and thanks for all your advice and guidance

I was the owner of a suunto race for the past few months and I just bought a garmin epix Pro and I must say it’s a huge leap forward in functionality and performance, I am glad I did the change to garmin.

I am not here to argue which one is better but I few things I want to point out, last week I did a 10k run and my steps at the end of the day was 220 steps and the blood oxygen sensor never gives me a reading higher than 75, and in terms of functionality I can use contactless payments, Spotify and any watch face I like. I am still using both suunto and Garmin and I must say the hardware of the suunto race is very good it luck’s on the software side if suunto can manage to fix this it will be a different story anyway that’s my opinion I am sure many of you will disagree but that’s ok.
