@isazi Ok… It’s a pity I think. I neither want nor need HR outside sports, I just want to get overall sleeping stats. Hope Suunto can fix it ! 🙂

@Todd-Danielczyk I am quite sure that HR was not required before the update in November. I purchased the Vertical in September and Sleep track with HR disabled worked fine during the first weeks but after a couple of weeks it suddenly stopped working…

with HR enabled sleep track works ok but I prefer to have HR disabled in order to have even longer battery power (which is even with HR enabled amazing! )

@mikado1980 This is highly unlikely to change as HRV is part of assessing recovery, is recorded at night/early morning and requires HR readings.

I think this is not going to change as HR is one of basic elements for assesing sleep. I think its like that on every watch.

@Matija-S not on Polar watches I have previously had (polar m430, Grit x… ) On the Grit X sleep tracking worked perfectly with HR disabled

@mikado1980 maybe some basic function, but shoult not track sleep stages without HR data.

“The Sleep Plus Stages algorithm incorporates signals from an acceleration sensor and an optical heart rate sensor in the watch. Accurately measuring the heart’s beat-to-beat intervals with an optical wrist sensor is the foundation of determining sleep stages. Classifying sleep into light, deep and REM sleep relies on variation in the heart’s beat-to-beat intervals.” from Polar website

@mikado1980 “Continuous heart rate tracking needs to be enabled for Sleep Plus Stages to function. To enable Continuous HR tracking go to Settings > General Settings > Continuous HR tracking and choose On or Night-time only.”

“Your watch detects when you fall asleep, when you wake up and how long you spent sleeping. The Sleep Plus Stages measurement is based on recording the movements of your non-dominant hand with a built-in 3D acceleration sensor and recording your heart’s beat-to-beat interval data from your wrist with an optical heart rate sensor.”

In the white paper it states under section 3.2 Measurement method
Polar sleep measurement does not require any
effort from the user. Only thing (s)he needs to do is
to wear his/her watch and make sure that
‘Continuous HR tracking’ setting is on.

Not sure if the settings just showed it was turned off and it ran in the background, but it is needed for sleep tracking for Polar as well.

I hade the Polar Grit X for three years and simple sleep tracking worked without HR enabled.

As far as I know, Polars Sleep plus stages is a more advanced version of sleep tracking where you need to have HR enabled, yes. But for simple sleep tracking you dont need it.

That could be one solution for Suunto as well, technically it should be possible.
