SOFTWARE UPDATE 2.33.12 - Q1 2024
-
@ChrisA said in SOFTWARE UPDATE 2.33.12 - Q1 2024:
@Meneillos for me water drops won’t unlock the Race screen, if raise to wake is set to display only. Haven’t tested below the shower (don’t wear my watch then) but just tried it outdoors while in the rain.
Right. Problems in the shower or water only occur, if raise to wake is set to “full on”.

Since the last update, my pace suddenly spikes when I reach the first km of my run.
Am I the only one ? -
@Raphes67 no you are not alone, I’ve noted that as well and it happens several times along the way

I’m a little bummed that the issues with navigation prompts weren’t addressed with this update. I know it’s been discussed elsewhere (https://forum.suunto.com/topic/9382/navigation-turn-notififactions), but I was really hoping for some progress.
There’s really one simple fix that would dramatically improve the experience: when at the current turn, show a prompt for THAT TURN and not the NEXT TURN.
It should be a relatively easy fix since it currently works the correct way when approaching the end of a route - first it gives the ~100m warning that the end is approaching, and then it prompts when you’ve reached the exact end point. Just apply this logic to turns and waypoints and we’re all set.
… And if I had to beg for one other improvement, I’d like the turn prompts to display longer.

Watch didn’t sync today either. Happens with about 50% of activities since the last update

@duffman19
Great points -
@duffman19 I still hope they make the turn notifications a lot smaller so that parts of the screen remain visible. Same for off-route-warnings. Being able to continuously see the map/breadcrumbs would help a lot, especially if the turn info is difficult to interprete, wrong, or falsely timed …
-
@duffman19 It’s a good idea to bring it up again, even if I don’t think Suunto will deploy it as a firmware update…
I think / hope that one day, taking advantage of the introduction of a new watch Suunto will integrate a real track navigation.
Today it sucks and worse than that, it’s unusable.I imagine that 99% of employees have a Suunto on their wrist and that a large proportion use it for sport, so I don’t understand how this function can be so rubbish compared to other brands.
On a Suunto Race, if you want to follow a new track it’s compulsory in my opinion to display the map screen. On a Garmin, for example, you can run on any screen and follow the directions that appear in the overlay - at the right moment in the vast majority of cases.
In my opinion, this is an obvious area of development for SuuntoAnd I know that some people here use their watches for cycling (Garmin’s Edge for me). I don’t even know how you can tolerate this level of looseness on this function. On a bike, where speed is more important, it’s vital that the turning information arrives at the right time if you don’t want to make U-turns or stop. Suunto will go straight to the wall if it comes out with a bike-computer as bad at navigation functions as these watches.

@Arnaud-Lclr when the SV came out (in may 23) I talked about this, because I think it‘s annoying that you cannot see the data like HR, cadence, pace while using the map… at that time I requested to have a overlay of one or two parameters on the map screen (it would be great to have the possibility to chose the parameter like while creating the sports mode) and also a automatic switch of the different screens of sport mode and map… but I think nobody wanted to hear this
-
@ChrisA thanks for the tip! I’ve set the raise to screen only, let’s see how it goes
-
@SuperFlo75 The subject is quite conceptual for someone who has never experienced a good navigation system. I’ll see if I can’t make a video demo of the damn thing.
-
Today I’ve noticed a strange behavior
When charging and downloading a map, it seems that the watch stop charging after the “map downloaded” message is shown.
Not sure if it was my fault (maybe moving the charger) or not, I’ll try again later
-
@Tieutieu yes, it does. But I want to fully lock the watch. During wintertime when using gloves my gloves often accidentally presses the buttons.
-
@sartoric
maybe and update you didn’t recognise? -
I would like to write a FEW POSITIVE WORDS about the last update. As we all know from the very beginning, Race has some annoying bugs, and a few new ones have appeared recently, but…
I currently have my third Race. I buy it, use it for a few weeks, get discouraged and return it or sell it. Then comes the update, I buy another one in the hope that it will be better
I must admit that after the last update, Race runs incredibly smoothly, using the menu is finally as it should be. Changing options during training is also smooth, as is waking up the display with a hand gesture. Additionally, my wrist heart rate measurement finally started working properly. The last 13km run and not a single big drop like before. I’m really impressed. I believe that Suunto will give us a new update in a few days that will at least fix what it broke recently. Thanks to this, many of us will regain the joy of using Race… and then it will only get better and better… and in a few weeks I won’t have to sell my beautiful watch again -
@SuperFlo75 Yep, I brought up the same thing. I’d love to able to set and see a couple of parameters on the map screen. Distance would be really useful, even the time of day. Just give us something!
-
@gizmo about the wrist HR… I can say that it does look better. Prior to this update I only ever ran with my chest strap as cadence lock would set it very quickly. I’m talking my HR supposedly going from 50 to 180 in the space of 45 seconds.
This morning I had to dash for 7 minutes and didn’t wear a chest strap, but the wrist HR worked ok for once. I’ll need to dig a little deeper as it’d be nice to not have to use a chest strap for my easy runs, but at first glance, this looks good -
The CTL has started to “drift” by one unit lower on the watch on the start of every day, but it gets fixed on the second sync, the first sync almost never does the trick. I am on the Vertical.
-
@mlakis I noticed the same. My first « guess » was that the watch was calculating an updated CTL even if not synchronized with SA.
-
@mlakis I would also guess that the app does the calculation on its own, but also gets the numbers from the app/backend via sync. And since the backend is the single source of truth, whatever is calculated locally gets overwritten. But it’ s interesting, that this happens on the second sync. Maybe there’s an async calculation process on the backend involved, which is not done at the first sync of the day or triggered by the first sync of the day. Either way, I am happy that the numbers on the watch are finally correct
