      Hello.

Is there a way to lock the screen while the activity is paused? I’ve tried holding down the bottom button, to no avail.

Seems like this was an option in previous watches from searching the forum, but it’s a bit worrying having the buttons active with the ominous End option in sight while taking a break.

      Thanks.

@shanghai-on-sea you need to lock the screen during the exercise, then it will be locked when paused. You cannot lock when paused.

@Brad_Olwin that is only for the auto-pause feature right? In order to manually pause the watch, I need to unlock it first.
After that, there is no way to lock the watch again. Only when resuming the exercise again.

@Brad_Olwin you can’t manually pause with the screen locked though. Autopause isn’t great for activities like hiking, which might be stop-start on ascents or for brief water stops, where you wouldn’t want the watch to pause.

@shanghai-on-sea mine auto paused often when walking uphill. I’d say it is useless for hiking with any elevation gain 🤣 So the only option is manually pause.

It would help walking activities if the auto pause could be made much lower for walking.
It works well with faster activities.

@shanghai-on-sea If you are worried about accidental button presses I think this is unlikely with the Race, it requires quite a bit of force to press a button. Accidental press of the crown will only scroll through the available screens. I have not had an accidental button press even during SkiMo where I am extensively using poles and flexing my wrist.

@Brad_Olwin an accidental button press while recording an activity will cycle through screens, yes. But while paused, an accidental button press can end the activity entirely.

Don’t think you’ve quite caught the gist of the issue here.

Previous Suunto watches allowed you to lock the device while on the pause screen. The Race does not, which seems an oversight.

the activity is neither stopped nor discarded with a single button press.
I do lock buttons during activities for some sport types, but never had issues during pause

I have caught the gist of the issue. To end an activity you would have to press the upper button accidentally then scroll accidentally to end and then accidentally push in the crown button. Highly unlikely to happen! If you accidentally press the upper button the default is resume so the worst that would happen is you pause. Then there is the automatic reminder once you are moving again so you would notice you have accidentally paused.

Not once in many, many mountain/trail runs and SkiMo with poles where my wrists are flexing substantively have I accidentally pressed a button on the Race, other than the crown, which simply advances screens.

So, I don’t think there is much chance you can accidentally end the activity.
