Hello everyone, I have been a Garmin user for several years but to renew my watch, I would like to try a Suunto Vertical (I don’t like amoled screens). Having inquired for several days, I see that there are quite a few bugs and malfunctions (OHR, sleep tracking, step counter). I’m not a data fanatic but I like to know the daily step values, my heart monitoring (which tells me if I’m in shape or tired). Will I find this again with a vertical Solar? It will be used for trail running, running, cycling and hiking. Finally, I understand that there is a bug with the autonomy since the last update. Is it common for Suunto to find bugs like this? I don’t like doing the Beta tester. Thank you for your feedback.

@Matthieu_45 All brands have bugs, that’s a fact. But the thing with forums is that people write about problems 90% of the time and 10% about what really works. This is not unique for Suunto.
So does Suunto have more bugs than Garmin? Maybe, I don’t know to be honest. I do of course have some things I want to get fixed as soon as possible and one of those things are the step counter and sleep analysis.
Steps is sometimes ridiculous low but that came last software update and I think they will tweak it til next release.

Regarding sleep recoding it works ALOT better now then one year ago, but still has some work to to because for me it sometimes stop recoding my sleep in the middle of the night. Not often, but it happens.

But the one thing I fore sure can tell you Suunto is better on is the simplicity of the watch and the really good app. The app alone is one of the reasons Suunto keeps dragging me back 😅

So is Suunto worth a try? Absolutely it is!

@Matthieu_45 I’ve been using SV (not solar) for quite some time, and so far I haven’t had any problems. I’m a similar user to you, I wear the watch 24/7, the battery has a fascinating autonomy. I follow the forum and the problems of some users, but their problems and bugs are more the exception than the rule. I think you will be very satisfied with SV.

            Thank you for your feedback.
Indeed on the forums we only see users who encounter problems, not those who are happy with their watches. Yesterday, I spent my evening reading the tests, the user trials, the forum and there are still quite a few concerns that arise and which are not isolated: OHR monitoring, battery drain, step counter, unexpected stop. I’m not talking about sleep tracking because it’s not very reliable and I no longer sleep with my watch on my wrist. it bothers me.

              @Matthieu_45
OHR --> with a device as heavy as the Suunto Vertical can be hit and miss during exercise, when the watch is shaken.
The 24/7 OHR is super reliable.

Step counter --> no watch will ever count steps. What they all do is to evaluate your arm movement and try to figure out if you are moving around. So there is no correct absolute value, just relative ones. Suunto’s have been known for counting steps while cooking etc and the algo has recently been changed to be less sensitive. Still it gives a good estimation on your general activity during the day.

Battery drain: is currently heavily investigated by Suunto. This is not a permanent bug and will be solved with the next update.

Unexpected stop: never had it and never heard of it.

Go with the Vertical. It is a great tool!!

                Thank you for these details.
It’s off to a good start! For 2 hours, I’m trying to create a Suunto account from IOS and it’s impossible for me. I get an error message indicating: an error has occurred… 😑😒

Hello everyone, I don’t know what I did but I ended up with my newly created account deleted… I’m still thinking about this and I can’t make up my mind.
When cycling I use my Garmin computer and I think that a Garmin watch could be good for tracking on a single application. Now I just have a non-solar vertical in hand and it is a very beautiful object.
Finally, for the record, a friend received a new Garmin on Friday morning and it crashed upon startup. So yes there are problems at Garmin too. I don’t use a lot of data but I just need it to be reliable. (step counter, daily heart rate) I no longer use sleep data because the big watches prevent me from sleeping properly
