Update for posterity: I think the problem is the watch’s Bluetooth resources are saturated.

It’s not conclusive, but when connected to a Stryd and external HRM, I can connect to one other Bluetooth device via S+. If I enter the pause menu, and disconnect one S+ device (disable the S+ app and select another), I can connect without issue.

What I don’t understand yet is that when cycling, I can connect to four BT devices (power, WYÛR/bike pod), external HR and something via S+.

It seems that you can have up to four concurrent BT connections, but only one of them can come from S+. This might be five connections: I don’t know if the watch connects to the phone during an activity (weather updates?), but given that the app can’t sync when a menu is open, I don’t imagine it can.

TL;DR? It seems that only one Bluetooth connection via S+ is possible with the firmware available in 2024-09.

        @Ze-Stuart
not sure to follow you, but app is definitively connected to the watch during activities (sync of notifications, or even sync of routes).
For the rest, i am totally incompetent for so many BT devices connections 🙂

@Ze-Stuart there was a comment in the forum saying that next firmware update should improve this, it was related to the Shimano shifting app but it may be more general

@Ze-Stuart this should have been fixed with current update, can you check that? I only have one HR chest strap, no other sensors to test.

@isazi wilco! I was going to today, but I was too excited to ride my bike and forgot… should be able to on Friday.

@isazi I don’t think BLE compatibility fix for Shimano apps has any effect on CORE or Train.Red. Compatibility issue with Shimano devices has always existed, and CORE / Train.Red have worked fine in the past. Or was there some other BLE fix in 2.37.34?

@Raimo-Järvi let’s see what @Ze-Stuart can test, I have no external sensors at home, except a HR monitor.

@isazi @Raimo-Järvi initial test result: problem resolved.

I could connect to both my CORE and Train.Red sensor concurrently.

NB this was just a test indoors, for a couple of minutes: I haven’t had a chance to go for a run for a couple of days. Either later today or tomorrow,

@isazi @Raimo-Järvi today’s test was less successful: I could connect to the Train.Red sensor, but not the Core.

The Core was advertising, and after 4 failed attempts to connect to the sensor, my phone paired and connected without issue. Either there’s a problem with Core S+ app, or the problem persists.

I’ll try the Train.Red sensor and my Activelook glasses tomorrow.

@Ze-Stuart let me know, if this is not fixed yet I may ask you to send some logs and we can open an issue with Suunto.

@isazi @Raimo-Järvi continued problems, with new problems developing. As follows:

Yesterday I went on a run. I could only connect to 1 S+ Bluetooth device, either my Engo 2 or Train.Red monitor. Despite the Core broadcasting, verified using my phone, the S+ widget was unable to connect.

TL;DR: suspected Bluetooth disconnect to three devices. Problem of two Bluetooth S+ connections continues.

                            Setup:

                            • Race, latest firmware
                            • Stryd Duo, paired as footpad, power pod disabled (I have it set for my bike’s power meter)
                            • Sennheiser Momentup Sport, paired as chest strap (HR source)
                            • Default Running profile, power
                            • Battery mode: performance
                            • Suunto Plus: ActiveLook, FusedZones

After 22:22 of running, the watch stopped connecting to external sensors: I noticed this as on my Engo 2, the HR field went from numbers to ‘–’ and the other two fields (power, pace) stopped updating. Looking at the watch, power was no longer displayed, which allowed me to determine it was probably the watch losing connection to Bluetooth. You can see on the graph that power and HR are no longer recorded, but pace continues to be.

I stopped running, paused, tried disabling/enabling the ActiveLook field, which didn’t restore the connection. I ended the activity, started a new one, and was able to continue without issue.

Please let me know if the .fit of the activity, or log files would be helpful.
