Turn by turn suggestions
-
I’ve done a few hikes now with my Race S using routes created in the Suunto App and with turn by turn enabled. Here’s a few suggestions for improvements.
- Have a notification for the actual turn before the notification for the next turn.
- The “turn left in 280 feet” notification should either base the triggering distance on the sport or be configurable. I’m sure 300 feet is great for running or cycling but is too far out for walking. 100ft would be better.
- Use a smaller font in the notifications (or just symbols rather than words), often the street name is truncated to just a few characters and in one case was truncated just to one letter.
- Keep the “Turn left in 280 feet” notification on until the actual turn, or have some easy way to recall it, or have some way to control how long it appears for. On more than one occasion by the time i’d gotten a hand free and pulled my sleeve up the notification had already gone.
- Show a small version of the next turn (like what appears on the map) on all the data pages, or make it an option.

@jumpysprinkles This is a topic that has been discussed many times before. I fully agree with you on each and every one of your comments.
In the end, this feature is practically useless. And I think there are many of us who think the same.
We will have to keep the faith that Suunto will work seriously on it and turn the tool into something truly useful.

@enriqueescoms Yeah, its pretty bad. I got the Race S primarily for the offline maps & navigation features, I’ll likely be returning mine.

I wouldn’t say that the feature is useless, but it needs to be improved for sure, the real problem is caused by overlapping notifications, the incoming turn must remain clearly visible until the point is reached, it should never be cancelled by the subsequent turn notification. Otherwise, when there are several turns close to each other it’s a mess…

@Stefano-M64 That’s why I say that for practical purposes, the way it works, it’s useless. It ends up being a mess and as a result, at least I do, I end up not using it.
Sure, if it were given a good push, it would be a very useful tool.

I did use it on hikes and when riding MTB. Its okay when turning on the route screen even with no map on the 9PP. It works so lala on the main screen when there are not so many turns but I always got lost when it comes to forks on trails even wile switching to the route view its quit un clear and I have to check on the phone.
So If I am new to a track, I always use komoot for planing and if I got lost.
As used from komoot, which I sometimes use over the Shokz Headset, it would really be great, if it would display “turn right in 50m” and again “turn right now” at the actual turnpoint.
It would even be better if it would say it through the app like it does with heartrate.
And there should be an improvement for trailforks! At 2 Trails going of “take/stay right/left” and not just doing nothing and with 3 or more trails going of “take the second, first or whatever rigt”
It has been mentioned some times yet and I still hope for the next quarter update! -
@Ecki-D completely agree with you!

Suunto It only shows next waypoint, next waypoint. It does NOT show turn left, or turn right. what is the problem? Befor recent update all worked fine and now it’s useless distraction
