step counter stopped working.

I have been using my new Suunto Race S for 2 weeks and was really happy with all features and accuracy. But two days ago, the step counter stopped working properly and is now counting about one third of the steps made (compared to my iPhone). When I am watching the step counter widget, there are some minutes of good performance followed by quite a long time without counting steps at all.
I hope it is a software bug going to be fixed and am wondering if anybody else is having the same issue?
