@daveathletic Still made in CN and still gorilla glass. The 100e bump for fractional less weight and titanium rim seems rather steep. But I guess worse crimes have been committed by the likes of Garmin and Polar. Unfortunately, not for me! Love the bands though.

@Ɓukasz-Szmigiel because Race S is at a lower end in the portfolio than the Sapphire models

@Egika maybe you have forgotten about the 9PP and where it sits in the portfolio now.

@altcmd you mention it “where it sits now”
When introduced the S9PP was the top of the line model.

Suunto 5 was the non sapphire model at that time.

Anyway, we don’t need to argue. This is obviously a portfolio decision. And as with every decision, someone has take it and not everyone loves it.

@Egika ofcourse, I only referred to it from this point because when released, 9PP was quite an overpriced watch for what it was.

But yes, I agrees, let’s not argue 🙂

                      S9PP overpriced? You’re talking about the S9P right? đŸ‘Œ

@altcmd I disagree with your opinion on the 9PP. I have purchased two of the recent watches from Suunto for myself, the 9PP and the Vertical. I still use the 9PP and wish that a 9PP-sized Vertical was made. It would be the only watch I would need.

@Brad_Olwin I own one myself and can firmly relate. however, I also recall how the reviews were a bit negative for the fact that 9PP was supposed to be, at the time, Suunto’s flagship, and it shipped with an inferior screen quality and in a size much smaller to its body, with a proportionally large bezel. And, much of the software we have now was still not released at the time, so yes, I still think that at the time of release, 9PP was overpriced. But that’s just my opinion.
But I strongly agree with you - a Vertical in a 9PP form factor is all I need.

@Egika why titanium then? 😉 isn’t titanium premium?

@altcmd I find the 9PP being a proof of concept for the new UI, not essentially a new watch. Especially considering how long it took after its launch for the interface to mature. It’s a great watch nevertheless and I enjoy sports with it as a companion.

However, looking at Vertical and Race series - it definitely is somewhat behind hardware wise and doesn’t fit the rest of the gang. I suspect Suunto will release a smaller Vertical in the near future.

I find the Race S Ti a bit ‘cheap’ looking - the sand blasted finish of the Race Ti is so much nicer looking than the brushed finish of the Race S Ti (which reminds me of, well, stainless steel).

Hard to justify an additional $100 for a ~7g lighter watch with the bezel/back plate made of Ti. If only there was sapphier glass it’d be a more compelling offer!

Race vs. Race Ti is much more compelling (double map storage & quite a significant weight difference as well).

Here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU2t3Z4rN7s, an unboxing of the white and lime titanium version (in Spanish) by Suunto expert Joaquín Pérez.

Personally, I don’t think that I would find it worth paying the 100€ difference compared to the steel version, but I admit that the one presented in the video looks very cool. đŸ•¶ 😊

@Brad_Olwin I hope it will be made in near future. With new OHR a Race S form factor and MIP and TI and Saphire. Solar is for me not necessary I will decide then if I replace my S9PP with one of these. Anyway, after ZoneSene launch is OHR even less important for me in training. Unfortunately ZoneSense is in the moment for me big mystery
Sometimes I feel that it does the job as expected, and sometimes I’m sure it does not. But for this topic we have different thread here 🙂 .

I have a question for Race S titanium owners: As you can see in the pictures, my black stainless steel version of the Race S is already quite worn after a few months. That’s perfectly okay, because after all it’s an everyday item that accompanies me in my daily life - whether in the office, running or rock climbing and other sports. Nevertheless, the question arises as to whether the titanium version can withstand scratches better - not only because the material itself is harder, but also because there are (hopefully) no visible color changes, as it is made entirely of the material and not just black in color - as is the case with the steel version - but the base material is silver. I would be happy to receive feedback on this - I might then consider switching to the titanium version.

@FCDsh this is my 9PP Titanium. As you can see, there are some tiny scars, but like you said no color changes. It’s my everyday watch since Summer 2023. You have to look closely to recognize the scars when wearing it. image0.jpeg
