Re: Suunto app not finding Smart Sensor HR Monitor
      My Smart sensor is nearly 3 years old and will no longer pair with my watch or phone. i have tried the following;

      • new battery x 2 incase 1 was faulty
      • reverse the battery for 3 seconds (with both batteries)
      • tried holding the pads together to create a circuit

I use the strap on average once per week and leave it to air dry. is there anything else icould try or is it just a matter of buying a new device?

      TIA

@minimark069 Most likely the main unit “the button” thingy is OK. The flexible belt is notorious for failing after a few years. I had to replace the belt and everything worked again.

I mean the belt, not the sensor

Well, the sensor needs to “read” some heartbeat to start transmitting it.

@minimark069 It is most likely the strap. Do you wash the strap? Weekly machine wash will help.

@Brad_Olwin How can weekly washing help? I have been using my H10 for about 4 years, I have never washed it. Only recently problems started after 1.5 hours of training, the heart rate freezes and does not change, or changes, but very slowly and improbably. If the sensor is disconnected from the belt and reconnected, the heart rate returns to normal. Perhaps this is another case, but it is there. I do not know if this is related to the watch and the new SZ function, the belt or the H10 sensor, but this appeared recently.

No one here is referring to your case.
The OP is using a Suunto heart belt that goes offline if not connected to the strap or if HR is not “found”.
Washing is needed to have correct readings.

                          … but anyway

I think @Sergei-Ladeishchikov has the opinion that weekly washing in a washing machine is a bit harsh for the belt over time due to the mechanical torture in there. It also depends on the chosen washing cycle I guess: use a gentle cycle like wool or lingerie.

@Mauerwegler One wash after 4 years of use is probably not a bad idea.
Besides, as it was written earlier, the strap is probably only suitable for replacement.

@maszop Absolutely. We do not disagree. The joint forum wisdom recommends to machine wash the belt between once a week and once every four years. If you follow this advise you will get the longest belt life you can expect. 😇

@Mauerwegler In this case, it is best to start by washing the strap or possibly replacing it.

Further speculation at this stage is, in my opinion, pointless.

I am not criticizing washing, I am asking for a general opinion how washing can affect the improvement of the belt? I was really afraid of damaging the belt when washing every week! Analyzing the behavior of my belt and sensor, I am more inclined to the problem of the sensor or the watch, because when disconnecting the sensor from the belt, the sensor reboots and the connection with the watch is lost (while I do not remove the belt from my chest). When connecting, the sensor turns on and the connection is restored. If someone had a similar problem and solved it, I would like to hear his story.

Washing the chest strap apears to have fixed the issue i can now connect the hr monitor to

                                        • my watch

                                        • the app on my phone (latest ios beta)

                                        • the app on my tablet (standard ios release)

                                        • it shows as visible in the bluetooth settings on both devices

however when i go to start a new activity i dont get the chest hrm icon unless i switch off the wrist hrm and if i do that it remains grey and flashing. I am now back to where i started, any ideas why the chest strap is connected but not showing for activities? i have tried a couple of 12sec resets.

                                        TIA

@minimark069 isn’t still connected to another device? Or your phone? I don’t think it can handle multiple connections.

It sounds like you’ve tried all the basic troubleshooting steps. Since the sensor is nearly 3 years old, it’s possible the internal components may have worn out. If you still have issues after replacing the battery and resetting, it might be time to consider replacing the sensor. 😊
