ZoneSense calibration data

In the recent weeks I have used constantly a HR strap (either Suunto or the Polar H10) to validate the new ZoneSense. Most of the time I see a good correlation of how I feel with the ZoneSense data, but since I have issue with abnormal readings of the HR strap in the first 5-10 minutes, I was just wondering how much is that affecting the calibration for the rest of the session.
For example, this morning I have applied a generous amount of EEG gel for strap contact but, regardless of that, I see that the HR values in the first minutes of my run were abnormal high.
Also, strangely Suunto app (and the watch after the first km) calculated an HR average of 128 bpm…which looking at the data, can’t be right.
But anyway, the question was more about the ZoneSense - could that be right if I start every session with such erroneous HR data in the first minutes?

@Liviu-Nastasa check the battery in your H10. It is known to go bonkers in cold weather if the battery is below 80 - 90%
Also, try a larger battery - it fits the H10, has the same voltage and is better in a cold weather.
Just keep in mind it may not be as water resistant as with original battery as the cover might not be as tight.

I would also recommend to fully moisture your belt right before yoo go to run. (Using EEG gel isn’t really necessary). Because when synthetic clothes rubs dry belt it leads to static electricity. It affects measurements a lot, because if the weather is cold you don’t sweat enough at the beginning of your workout. The fact that after few minutes HR data returns to normal (after you have sweat enough and your belt got wet) may indicate problems with electrical interference

@Łukasz-Szmigiel I just changed my H10 battery one week ago, initially I was also suspected the battery level but the issues were present after the battery change (and also with the Suunto Smart which is also rather new after one month).

@false today I used the same sensor, this time sinking the strap in water before going out and it worked fine, with no anomalies manifested in the first minutes. For the electrostatic issues, I’d have to change a lot of clothes to wool or natural fibers, which may push me to actually give up and take the Verity Sense instead.

@Liviu-Nastasa ZoneSense doesn’t work with optical HR sensors such as Verity Sense.
-
@halajos I know, but if my experience with the chest straps is not improving, I might accept that I won’t have the benefit of ZoneSense but at least will have decent HR values.

@Liviu-Nastasa I live in a very dry climate, Colorado US and run in tech shirts. With the Suunto Smartsensor I simply thoroughly wet the belt around the electrodes and then start exercising. I do not have high HR at the beginning. I cannot wait long after wetting the belt, otherwise it dries out.

Just moisture your belt, it’s cheaper
