The map scale changes by itself
-
I am rewriting the problem of my SUUNTO race because I am new to this forum and perhaps the problem is no longer seen.
When I do a workout following a route using the maps, the scale changes by itself without me touching the buttons or the crown, not even by mistake. I set the scale to 100 meters and after a few seconds it changes to 50 meters, 25 meters, 500 meters or even 25 kilometers. The map settings are “center map manually” and it is not a problem that starts after resuming from a break.
I contacted SUUNTO support 4 times with chat but the advice they gave me did not solve the problem. I updated the watch to software 2.39.44, I performed a soft reset, this afternoon I will try to perform a hard reset even if it is very annoying for me and let’s see what happens.
It is absolutely not good that a € 500 watch changes the scale setting by itself, it is up to me to decide not it!
I wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and if they have any other advice to give me otherwise I will take the watch to a service center. Thanks everyone.
I am waiting for a final response from SUUNTO chat support but if this time it doesn’t work I will be forced to take the watch to a service center.
Thanks, bye. -
@Massimo4896 almost sure the crown touches your skin, or clothing, and change the zoom level.
-
@Massimo4896 have you tried locking the screen? If it changes by itself, this is not normal, contact support and have your watch replaced.
-
@isazi perhaps it’s related to the bug I was describing in 9PP when the map resets to 100m after unpausing the watch?
-
I isazi referenced this topic

@Łukasz-Szmigiel what the user describes is the watch changing the zoom level on its own and in all directions, the bug of the zoom level being reset to 100m by pause, if still present (I honestly have not checked), seems quite different.
If there is no user error, as the OP says, then the watch must be faulty, cause I’ve never heard of this happening to anyone. -
@isazi ah, I haven’t seen the previous post.
-
@isazi You made a poor choice of duplicate, this one doesn’t have an issue description
Well, I just copied it here then
-
@pavel-samokha because the OP keeps editing the original post and delete everything

As @isazi said even if you doesn’t notice that it’s quite likely that this happens because of the crown contact with something. It happens for me all the time during winter if crown touches the cuffs of my jacket during cross-country skiing.
What I would suggest:
- Select zoom level you like on map screen. Switch to non-map screen - open control panel by long click on bottom button - enable lock screen. Then switch back to map screen. Now zoom is locked and won’t change.
- Personally I solved the problem by using long strap and wearing watch over-jacket
