@Tieutieu Damn, 1k$ watch with those slow maps… RS really shines on this side!

@ferns For me this 1k$ watch is a „child“ play and toy watch and it also looks like this… Race S is the way to go!

I get that it is common practice these days but is a reviewer trying to absolve themselves of any conflict of interest by claiming a review is not sponsored when the device is a loaner? I don’t mean this personally to anyone but just a general observation. Some people seem to get devices weeks in advance before launch and are then inclined to push their reviews out as soon as the embargo ends, i.e. first dibs on people looking for their immediate opinion.

This is a big shortcoming but I don’t see many reviewers avoiding all this confused talk by getting their own units and reviewing it after a period of use. I know some are going down this route and I hope to continue seeing their work.

I know that in today’s world of hooked on immediate gratification, reviewers feel inclined to push their opinions out soon. But perhaps there are people who might be more inclined to look out for your opinion if it is more reliable and trustworthy.

Just my 2 cents on this.

@altcmd some do more long term reviews, but unfortunately very few people will look for a review of a new product months, or years, after release, there would have been too many products releases in the meanwhile. So, if your income is from ads sold on your website/youtube/instagram/etc you need to be fast, if you do not get traction you not only miss the majority of people looking for information on release day, but also the search algorithms will penalize you because you have less clicks/views than others. So, unless there is a radical shift in monetization of online content, this is not going to change.

@isazi Excellent point. Those people who have an established relationship with vendors, will get a loaner under NDA weeks in advance, like DCR or DesFit. Others get a shorter runway before launch day or worse at or after launch day and have to scramble with quickie reviews to catch the launch wave and clicks.

@seanvk you know, some people do not even get a device before release, just the press release, they ingest it into ChatGPT, get a summary, and publish that. But it is easy to recognize the websites that just publish a rehashed version of the press releases 🙂

Here’s my review of the Suunto Race S after having used it for about 100 days or so:

@mlegrand good review. FYI, i think the watch rim is stainless steel rather full plastic. And all new Race S models are made in CN.

Chase the summit made an interesting comparison on VO2 Max between a lab test and different watch brands.

In this video he uses the Race S.
I kinda like the results 😉
