@GiPFELKiND thanks for the reply!! Yes, I am in contact with them to see what’s wrong. But I can’t send it right now, I am in the middle of big training block…

Did you try a fridge test?

It may give some more proofs for a faulty sensor (once sure you have well cleaned the sensor with warm water, etc…)

My Race works the same way. I honestly think the altitude was temperature sensitive, and there is even mention of this in some of the manuals for some Suunto plus apps. I don’t pay much attention to it though use it though as I live in a very flat place, I only care about barometric pressure and that does not vary.

@TitaniumDave yes mine is the same. I have done quite some trials and every time temperature does affect the altitude. Once I put it on my hand altitude starts decreasing slowly as the watch warms up. If I then place it back on a table, the altitude starts increasing again. Same with wind, impossible to get a good altitude track.

I am using the Race in stainless steel and black. Perhaps the titanium version is more stable? Who knows 🙂

I tried and tried to get a good stable altitude reading, but now starting to realize I am battling this for nothing 😆

@spardic I tried everything. But the same problem has been going on for months. I think it’s a software problem.

If you’re wondering why altitude reading changes with the temperature, this might be helpful:

that is related to the air temperature, not the temperature of the sensor that changes depending if you wear the watch or not

@Stefano-M64 the internal sensor of the watch can’t measure the ambient temperature without it being influenced by the body heat. If you’re going to cycle between having a watch on your hand or on the table or on the handlebar, its altitude readings will change due to changes of internal sensor’s temperature.

This is why there’s fusedalti, but it can’t work reliably if the watch temperature fluctuates abruptly.

@Łukasz-Szmigiel yes, I know, but the link you shared has nothing to do with that…

I think that the algorithm that changes from baro to alti mode automatically is not doing its job good enough. I have no way of knowing this for sure, but my guess is that it’s not the same algorithm that is used in other watches. I had much better results outside of activity with Suunto 9 Peak, Suunto 9 baro and ambit3 peak.

I wear my Race 24/7 and almost every morning I see altitude almost 50m more than the night before. During the activity, it’s very good, altitude is mostly spot on, but I have also seen crazy ascent values (like more than 50% more) few times (but that is not so uncommon with Suunto watches I guess).

BTW, I tested that on my Race, found no differences in both altitude and pressure

@Silviu-Adrian-Moise Hello, I’ve had the same problem since yesterday, the altitude is going crazy even when stopped, and counting the ascent. And not just when active, even when staying at home without moving the altitude goes up and down. I already had the problem several months ago, and after trying everything, I had to fight with Suunto to get a replacement. So now I’m doing a test today, and it’s going back to the store.
