Hello everyone. I apologize if I made a mistake while translating. I downloaded an offline map to my newly purchased Vertical watch. The map landed on the application, but I couldn’t find it on the watch. It may be due to my ignorance about using the watch, but I think it may not have landed due to any problem, but I’m not sure. I searched for downloaded maps or a different name in the watch, but I couldn’t see it. I enter the maps from the hiking section, the normal map is active, but I wonder where I can see the regional map I downloaded, I would like your help and have a good day.

@ilker I assume you really loaded the map to the watch? You have a working wifi connection and you kept the watch in the charger for the whole time. By the way, some people have reported wifi problems with the latest sw version.

Now when you start a new activity there are lots of options to choose from if you scroll down. Under ‘navigation’ the default selection is breadcrumb trail. Change that to a map and the map should appear as one of the screens in your activity. Of course you can access the map also scrolling down from the watch face to the map widget.

If the map still doesn’t show up and you see a black grid instead then there’s something wrong with GPS or you are outside of the loaded map. Or the map never got all the way to the watch.

Please let us know how it goes!

@ilker you can check the maps you’ve loaded on your watch directly in the app. In the watch you can’t see the “list” of maps you’ve loaded. If you go to “map/my position”, and if you have a gps signal, you’ll see the map background if you are in the region you’ve loaded on watch. Otherwise you’ll have a black and white grid with only current position icon.

@Tieutieu First of all, thank you for your quick response. I thought that the downloaded maps would be listed as in normal gps devices, which is not the case. I also thought that it can be used even if we don’t turn on gps because it is called offline. So I need to turn on the GPS anyway. Then as far as I understand, if I do not install any map on the watch, I will only see my active location and nothing else. If I download a map to the watch, I can only see the area with that map if I turn on the GPS. Then there is no problem with my watch. It just doesn’t work as I thought it would, the working system is different. Thank you again for your help and have a good day.

@ilker no idea what your definition of “normal GPS” is…
Offline is referring to internet connection - Receiving GNSS position data from a satellite is not being “online”.
Still even without a position fix, you can still open the map in your watch. It will just show a greyed out position marker in the center showing that the watch does not know where it is.

@ilker what do you mean by “normal map is active” vs. “regional map”? You either have a map loaded on your watch (you actually see a map), or don’t (you see just a black screen with white lines = no map loaded). If you can see a map on your watch during navigation then you did everything correctly and you have loaded a map. As others mentioned, you cannot see any specific information about maps on your watch (like which region it is, etc), only in the mobile app.

Edit: Ok now I get what you mean by normal vs regional

By the way … if you want to check if your map is on the watch, you SHOULD check the library in the app and believe it, if it says that the map is on the watch.
But if you really want to check it, you can.
I just tried for the first time to check a map, that is not in my current region. I am in northern Germany and oneof my downloaded maps is a part of the Netherlands (a few hundred kilometers away) … and in between I have not downloaded the maps and therby have the nice white grid on black.
Nevertheless … I zoomed out to 20km … and moved the map by touch to the Netherlands, which I somehow found … so, it works, I will not do it again, because maps listed in the librar have always been on my watch … but if it seems useful.for you, you can of course try it

using a Suunto Vertical & Suunto Wings; mostly running (AKA stomping around) and cycling mostly through the northern german "wilderness"

@ilker The watch has no idea of your location without GPS so GPS is required for the map. This is true of all devices unless as phones have WiFi + cellular they can approximate location.

Greetings to all of you from Turkey. And thank you very much for your answers. Yes, contrary to what I thought, the map is installed on my watch as you said. I searched for it thinking that I would see only maps loaded like in handheld gps. When I couldn’t find it, I thought it wasn’t loaded. It was completely due to my ignorance and inexperience. Thank you again and wish you success
