    Hi everyone,
I’m having persistent issues downloading maps to my watch and need help finding a solution.

The Problem: map downloads fail to start. Watch appears to disconnect from WiFi after a few seconds, screen on the watch claims maps are being downloaded briefly, then switches to “paused”

    What I’ve Already Tried:

    • Firmware downgrade - downgraded to the oldest version I could (2.36.18.15774-M-b8142f93) based on community suggestions, but this didn’t resolve the issue
    • Restarted both watch and router multiple times
    • Forgot and reconnected WiFi on the watch
    • Stayed within 50 cm of router during download attempts
    • Confirmed WiFi name and password contain no special characters
    • Used 2.4GHz WiFi network
    • Factory reset - Backed up data and performed complete factory reset

And various combinations of the above. The problem persists. The watch still drops WiFi connection immediately when attempting to download maps.

Has anyone experienced similar issues or have other suggestions? This seems to be a common issue, is Suunto planning to fix this soon?

I urgently need to get maps working on my device.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t have the Ocean and don’t know how common the issue is, but have you tried connecting the watch to a different WiFi access point to help diagnose whether there is something specific with your router<>watch connection?
You could try to enable hotspot (just another WiFi access point) on your phone, connect your watch to it using the Suunto app, and see if the watch can sustain that connection and keep downloading the map.
On certain Android phones, the phone can at the same time be connected to WiFi, i.e. your home router WiFi, and thus use that as a link to the internet instead of mobile/cellular data, if that is a concern in case of limits on mobile data usage. But regardless of the map file size and mobile data limits, if any, you can at least test the connection by letting it run for a minute and see if the connection persists.

@Squirrel yep, tried multiple WiFi access points, both at home and at work, and tried using my iPhone and a friend’s Android phone as a hotspot too - nothing helped.

Have the exact same issue here. It seems that no solution works so far. Used your suggestions as well - but no succes…
