      @Jamdog2477 I don’t get the disappointment.
      It is FOMO?
Ocean is getting exactly the same features that are introduced for the adventure watches. Just a little later.
Plus more (as dive related features are updated as well).
The model is not left along the way, it is just lagging a bit.

In the meantime, there are S+ apps coming in at the same pace as for all other models.

t6, S6, Elementum Terra, Ambit 3 Sapphire, Spartan Ultra Copper, Traverse Alpha, S7 Graphite LE, S9B Ambassador, S9P Granite Blue Titanium, S9PP Titanium Sand, Vertical All Black, Race Titanium Charcoal,
Race S All Black - Titanium Courtney
      Run Lime

@Jamdog2477 said in Suunto Ocean SW update 2.38.42 (2024 Q4):

I think that Suunto was very clear from the beginning that Suunto Ocean will receive all updates but later than the other watches because the Suunto Ocean is a dive computer and needs extra time and test compared with the other watches.

I’ve to admit that being a bit nerdy I’m always impatient to look for new updates,
nevertheless I believe that I would be way better to follow the Ocean update policy also for all the other watches, that would reduce bugs and users complains…

@Stefano-M64 I do not know exactly which are the protocols and regulations that a dive device should fulfil but I can imagine that are more strict than the ones of the sport watches (this means that are more costy too), we are talking about devices your life depends on.

Regarding the software, I can imagine that is the same than in the sport watches + dive functions, same platform than SV and SR, and I also believe that if Suunto could, they would release the update at the same time than the other watches.

@Jamdog2477 I was a loyal Suunto user for a few years, I changed it to Polar and for 3 years I used a new watch (Grit X and Grit X2), my wife has Pacer, my daughter Ignite3. I got used to the lack of updates 🙂 but I prefer Suunto, which I returned to, to make updates less frequently but without errors. If it appears 1 in half a year I will be happy, only one condition without any bugs and checked for functionality and efficiency of the system.

There goes the 6 month mark and still no updates.
FOMO, we’ll yes, I use this watch for all activities and am disappointed that I am not getting any updates to those as the other watches are.
They say that the watch will get the updates just later… But how much later? 6months is more than 6 updates behind… With no commitments from suunto as to the cadence, I look forward every month to see an update and get a hint as to the potential frequency for future updates that that might indicate, but we are now 6months in and no sign… So yes I am disappointed!

@Jamdog2477 maybe it helps if you don’t wait too hard.
Then the update will arrive as a positive surprise 🤗
                  Ease your mind.

                    Hello😊

I just got the Suunto Ocean last week and had my first freediving session. It is also my very first smart watch of any kind. I like it for it’s simplicity and clean interface but I would appreciate some slight improvements in the freediving mode that I have seen requested by other divers as well:

                    • Surface screen to have an alarm that is twice your last dive time, it would be nice if the arch represents this time too. I am a novice diver so I do t really go to depths where the other rules apply but they should be included as this is advertised as a dive watch. I currently just set an alarm for 2 minutes as I don’t exceed 1 minute but it would’ve been nice if the arch could also represent this surface time.

                    • I’ve seen many complaints about the fields in the screens or lack of specific fields. For me I would like to be able to see the last dive time on the surface screen, otherwise I am happy with everything else on the screens and having the heart rate and temperature etc on the cyclic field. However, I believe the easiest way to satisfy all complaints on this topic is to just have the same customization of the screens for the freediving mode like you can with the basic modes when creating a new sport mode.

                    • It would be nice if one could disable the touch screen for a sport mode. My touch screen freaked out when I was on the surface trying to mark a POI using the buttons.

A few bugs I have noticed:

                    • While freediving, the default field in the cyclic fields is the max depth, it did not update after the next dive with a deeper max depth. Even after cycling through all the fields and landing back on the max depth field, it still showed the max depth from my first dive. It did at least record the max depth correctly in the logbook.

                    • After ending the freedive activity, on the watch face, the surface time was displayed instead of my date complication while using the shark face. Even after changing the complication to something else it kept displaying the surface time. This was fixed after I changed to a different watch face.

I’d have to agree in what is written blow, Suunto indeed was very clear that the Ocean would be subject to a slower software release schedule. For me, that actually was one of the reasons I bought the Ocean.

My D6i is on its last legs, and having seen what the Software updates did to my Vertical, I though, the Ocean would be a good bet. I was hoping that they are not fiddling with things so much. But I was wrong.

You need to be careful what you wish for. A Suunto Software update may not necessarily make things better. They can either cause a certain battery drain, or update your watch with features and Software not to your liking.

My Ocean is now at V2.36.18 and my Vertical is at V2.33.16.Any versions after that, doe not suit me.

For me, I very much question on where Suunto is going with their Software/Firmware. My first Suunto was the D6i followed by the first Ambit, II, III and so on.

Buying the next or a new Suunto Model was not a question for me. But now I am at a point where I go, hmmm…

                      D6I / Ambit / Ambit 2 / Ambit 3 Peak Safire HR / S7 /
                      S9 Baro / S9T / S9 Baro T RB / S9 Peak / SV / Ocean

I agree with that, but on the other hand, it would be great if Suunto released a new firmware for the Ocean watches just before the holiday season, improving functionality, adding new features, or fixing bugs… Because if not now, when would be the best time to introduce such changes? Around Christmas at the end of the year? 🙂 I’m all for well-thought-out and thoroughly tested software, but it would be nice to have updates at least twice a year (whether bigger or smaller fixes).
                        best 🙂
