Suunto Vertical Solar add sport Caving speleology?
-
I was wondering why the Suunto Vertical doesn’t include speleology and caving as sports. Is it possible they don’t think of implementing this sport with a widget that always shows the compass and depth, as well as the track taken? It would be helpful if when you discover new routes, you can avoid making mistakes when you turn back. I hope they include this crazy sport, but not in 2025…
If any Suunto developer reads this, I hope they will soon implement this discipline which is now as much a part of mountaineering as climbing.
Next update
i Hope come on Suunto

@emmavet87 you could do compass and depth - assuming the altimeter’s altitude is correct underground - but the track taken would be hard. Are you thinking of something like the dive plots on the Ocean for the track?
I think caving is even more niche than OWS, but no argument it would be cool!

@emmavet87 I suggest you build your own climbing or so sport mode that shows depths and other data you need.
There is current altitude or altitude difference to start, compass heading etc. available as a data fields. -
@emmavet87 difficile --> impossible as GNSS (GPS) doesn’t work underground. The Ocean uses magic (undocumented sensor fusion) to build a 3D track of the route that’s visible after the dive in the app, but not during.
And exactly what @Egika said.

If the vertical and ocean have the same sensors, I think they could do a simple update and use the same algorithms for calculating caving depths. Suunto, please read these threads and create something for caving. thank you so much for the information you are giving me.

@emmavet87 caving depths measurement should work from atmospheric pressure.
At least, when the whole cave is not pressurized.
Just give it a try. I think it should work well.
