How to input POIs aimed to be reached during a sailing dinghy long range race
-
Hi,
New Suunto, Race S, user here.
I’ll take part to a long range sailing race in a few of days on a dinghy catamaran (Hobie at16).
The race consists of reaching several buoys/marks in a given sequence, all out of the start line sight.Race committee will give their position prior the race starts in the N xx° yy’ zz’’ E xx° yy’ zz’’ format.
I understand I’ll have to input the route and these POIs in my iPhone Suunto app, and then sync it towards the watch.
However, when trying to simulate and test this, I can’t succeed in inputting a few test POIs by their coordinates (longitude/latitude).
I’ve also seen that for instance my home’s position is coded XX,YYYYYYY ZZ.WWWWWW; is there a way to have such position coordinates converted in degrees, minutes and seconds withlatitude and longitude ?
Has someone ever performed such a task and how did you do ?
Note:- I’ve installed on my watch the Direct Path and Sail Racer 5mn (though I have a start-dedicated countdown device).
- I customised the Navigation activity to display data of interest for me (speed, distance, course,…)
Thanks in advance for your advice, suggestions or even links to how-to instructions.
PS. Apologies for my English as it’s not my native language; I hope my questions are clear and understandable !

@KleinH At present Suunto App will only accept decimal lat/long. No traction as yet for other formats (vote here).
There are phone apps that seem to provide offline (if that’s what you’ll need) conversion. Can’t guarantee their reliability:
E.g., https://apps.apple.com/us/app/coordinates-gps-converter/id494286614
And “Latitude Longitude Coordinates” – Apps on Google Play

@Fenr1r Hi, thanks for your app advice as well as for your confirmation re coordinates format.
I’ll check if the app can convert also.Nd with some luck, the race committee could provide both coordinates formats to ease their input!
