New to Suunto - I need some help
-
It’s my first time using a Suunto watch and I’m still getting used to it. I came from a Coros Pace 3 and bought a Race 2. On Coros, the pace zones, HR zones, resting heart rate, and maximum heart rate are set automatically and get adjusted over time. That’s great. On the Race 2, it set my maximum heart rate automatically based on my age and set 60 as my resting heart rate (on Coros it was 48). So I have a few questions:
Where can I see my resting heart rate in the Suunto app? Because 60 is not correct.
Does Suunto automatically update resting heart rate and maximum heart rate?
How do you calculate your pace zones? I used the threshold pace value from my Coros (4:14) and then went here – https://www.myprocoach.net/calculators/running-zones/
Is there any way for Suunto to automatically set heart rate zones like Coros, or does it just stick to age and resting heart rate?
Regarding power zones, I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions?
Today I did a run with maps. On Coros, it gives alerts before turns or if you’re off-route. On the Race 2, I didn’t get any alert telling me to turn. How can I enable that?
For now, I think that’s it. Suunto is also not measuring my HRV: it worked well the first night but didn’t measure on the following two nights. Sleep was measured on all three nights since I got the watch, but it showed 97% light sleep every night…

You can see the minimum HR in the daily stats (if you have 24/7 HR enabled. It is also part of the morning report.
Does Suunto automatically update resting heart rate and maximum heart rate?
No

I use the pace zones from Training Peaks. But different people have different needs for those zones. There is no calculation that works for every use case.
Is there any way for Suunto to automatically set heart rate zones like Coros, or does it just stick to age and resting heart rate?
As there are different ways to calculate HR zones, you would need to decide for yourself, which method to follow: https://help.trainingpeaks.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017420092-Zones-Calculator-Overview

In the route list of the app, you can enable TBT (turn by turn). This will enable notifications. In the current implementation these come up 20m before the turn. Suunto is aware that this might be too late and I guess it will change.

This is strange. Maybe check the settings for sleep tracking again. Does optical heart rate work for you in general? Next tip: press and hold the top button for a soft reset.
Enjoy your watch!

@Egika thank you for all the answers. Just two more questions: I did my first run without updating my pace zones (I didn’t know I had to). As a result, the app thinks I did the whole run in pace zone 5, which I didn’t. The following runs already have the correct pace zones. I changed the TSS of the first run from pace to HR, and that solved the impact on ATL and CTL (everything updated automatically). That’s nice. But the app didn’t update the pace zones inside the first run – is there any way to fix this, or will it always show those strange pace zones?
I’ve already done four runs with the watch. The first three calculated TSS based on pace, and the last one on power. Does the app choose this automatically? What’s the logic behind it (just so I understand)?
Thank you.

@gogapo at least no easy way in the app to change zones of an activity in the past.
you could download the FIT or JSON file of the activity, to edit it.
Then upload the activity again…
I would not spend the effort. -
@Egika thank you. It would be nice if the app did it automatically
-
@Egika by the way: of you want to permanently delete an activity, do you delete it on the watch or on the app? On Coros you can use the watch
-
@gogapo you can delete it individually. deleting is not synced.
If deleted on the watch, it will stay in the app.
If deleted in the app, it will stay in the watch (just not forever, as it will be overwritten eventually some time. Also FW updates delete some details). If you want it back in the app, you will have to uninstall/reinstall the app.
