Just a daft question, as I’ve been going through the Forerunner 955 manual recently. Is the 3D distance active on the Garmin? This used to be an option on the Ambit 3 Peak, but I ‘think’ is built-in to the Race & Vertical models (@mods - please correct me). It’s not enabled by default in my Garmin, and could explain differences in distance measurement.

I will reply to myself, since my last post saying that I got bad ox saturation got downvoted, I understand there is some distrust in my claim, i re-enabled the widget (that I removed because the last time I used it my watch rebooted itself…). Here is two SpO2 measurement taken back to back in good conditions, using the original silicon wristband, showing levels that should have taken me to a hospital (i’m fine) [image: 1767609596185-51b12383-0d94-4f8a-ab5f-5b3f9ccf9960-image.png] [image: 1767609640779-6fe90a5e-a424-4e4d-9fe1-df608a591d16-image.png]

If you are taking about the app (SA), the routes are persistent, but do go away (eventually). I cannot provide any good algorithm for doing this, but I managed to remove some old routes after several trials. If I recall, in Strava, make the routes not favorites, then in SA, switch them to “not to load to watch”, and then try removing them. A good idea is to have some time to pass between steps.

My experience with Race 2 is not that bad. I had a streak of 5 skiing activities over around two weeks and all worked fine. Then the 6th activity didn’t work. I rebooted the watch and had two activities without a problem. However, I agree that if you want to make sure that the activity shows the #of runs and descent, your best bet is to reboot the watch before the activity. Btw. You can reboot ahead of time (e.g., before leaving home).

After 17 walking activities with SV2, some on flat terrain and some on hilly terrain I got 1st V02max today. It was a brisk walk on flat terrain in zone 1 with good GPS and OHR. Great way to finish this year.

@sky-runner your first point even weight more if you don’t turn a map in the size of the screen, but a map that is larger than the screen, as the centre point of this “disc” is off-centre of the watch screen… IIRC Garmin just uses the RAM of the SoC and Suunto use the same SoC (at least in the Race and Race S) with additional RAM. From my memory it is 11 MB, but that doesn’t really changes the whole situation…

I use the Race 2 with Wahoo HR strap and it works with no issues. The strap connects to my bike computer and the watch when I ride, or just to the watch when I XC ski.

I would very much like to disable VO2max detection for trail running activities too. When I owned Garmin, my VO2max continuously declining because a do at least 1-2 serious trail runs per week on a steep terrain. Once I disabled trail running VO2max on Garmin, the estimate steadily went up from 47 to over 52 in just a few months. Now, that I have owned Suunto Race S and S for over a year, my VO2max has been stuck in the 48-49 range, occasionally going to upper 49. I feel that is a bit too low. Every time I do a trail run, it always goes down to lower 48 or even upper 47. The funny thing is that I am a relatively better trail runner than I am a road runner. I have good and efficient technique when running on technical trails, but despite that the VO2max estimate is always punished!

It’s nice to see some positive comments, so many posts are pretty negative. I fully agree with your experience. I have switched between Suunto and Garmin for 20+ years. Over time, each had their strengths and weaknesses. I think Suunto Race 2 is one of the best options sports and adventure watches available. The UI is logical, intuitive and provides simple and effective options for navigating with the 2 buttons, scroll wheel (great for map zooming in and out), and touchscreen. The data is spot on, no fluff, and the new oHR sensor works great. I personally like the architecture of keeping Suunto Plus apps separate - you add only stuff you want, unlike Garmin packing it all into the base watch (and making it cluttered and more of a learning curve). It looks amazing and feels great on the wrist. I won’t be switching back to Garmin anytime soon if ever. Three improvements I would like to see (1) add routable maps with trail and feature names (2) allow more than 2 Suunto Plus apps to run during an activity (3) sync all data both ways between the watch and app so all data is global (like the app) vs local to the watch. That would allow for multiple watches to act as one from a data perspective. It would also allow data added from other sources (bike computer, manually entered) be reflected on the watch. My 3 cents.

@Ecki-D. I think your guess is correct, it probably won’t work technically. It’s kind of a shame because you have to consider navigation or live trekking… Thanks for your feedback

@TED77 But generally, the number itself doesn’t matter, nor do these types of comparisons. If the trend or graph is more or less the same in both tools, the difference in numerical values can simply be ignored.

@Squirrel Thanks a lot! Now it makes sense. I am new to TrainingPeaks and I tried to study how the CLT, ATL and TSB are calculated and I though that I understand it but then different text description of values in the app and watch totally confused me. Also in the watch manual there is no deep description of widgets, there are just few general sentenses without needed details. I think that this would be an easy fix which helps people to start with training peaks. Also lots of people complains than Suunto watches are often inconsistent with the app and this would help at least a bit with this issue…
