It’s not the last update for the watch, should be more dive features updates in the future
Not the last update this year? Or in general? Are we going to have to wait another year for “maybe” some new dive features and improvements?

Hi everyone!I think some of you are a little mistaken. This is not “just” a dive watch – even if it’s listed that way on the website – and it’s not a dive computer either. But it’s also not a general sports watch. It’s a multisport watch.
I don’t mean to say that you’re wrong – quite the opposite. What I want to point out is that this watch shouldn’t be seen as simply a sports watch that happens to include some tracking features, nor just as a dive watch or computer that is purely dive-specific with everything else being secondary. It’s both in one.
So yes, your disappointment is valid, but if you set the bar too low in this discussion, you lose focus. The updates to sports modes are important too. I bought this watch because the marketing promised that I wouldn’t need a separate one for swimming, hiking, running, etc., and also because of its professional-grade materials. Diving was actually the least important factor for me. But since this is a multisport watch with professional dive functionality, it must deliver on that as well.
So what I’d like to say is: for those who are disappointed by the lack of updates to dive features, that’s completely understandable. But please don’t dismiss the other functions as if they weren’t important – that’s a matter of personal preference. The whole point of this watch is that everything matters.
Personally, I miss the multi-sensor battery status indicator. That’s more important to me. I’m really frustrated that the only way I find out the HR sensor has died is when it stops connecting. Other models already have this feature.
What bothers me a little now is that users with very different needs are all ending up dissatisfied. We waited a long time due to “safety first” regulations, and now I see that the diving community isn’t happy, and honestly, neither will those be who chose this watch for other sports preferences.

I totally get your point! But don’t you also think that a watch at this price point should at least have the same software standard as a Suunto that costs half as much? A premium model that lags behind the software of cheaper models isn’t really a premium model… In the diving area there are still several uncertainties (I don’t even want to call them bugs or errors) that apparently haven’t been fixed. This update feels like Suunto just did something to calm down the waiting community.
I have been a Fan of Suunto for Long Long time… But it fades.

Oh, not at all. What I actually wanted to emphasize is that we shouldn’t lower the bar, and as users we shouldn’t be competing among ourselves about which functions are more important than others. Because these are individual preferences.
The whole point I’d like to stress is that with this watch, no feature should be prioritized at the expense of another. Precisely because this is a flagship model, there can’t be compromises.
The fact that certain things are already available in lower-priced models, or in other more advanced models like the Race or Race2, means that for this watch such features should be considered basic—or at the very least, reasonably expected. And if those other models are improving, then the Ocean should be advancing even more.
Of course, I’m not talking about hardware design here—that’s a given. But in terms of software, anything the others can do (within the limits of the hardware) this one should be able to do as well, and ideally even more. At least, that’s how I see it.
So please don’t misunderstand me—you are absolutely right. I fully agree that this model should be positioned above the others.

I appreciate what you’re saying and yes, being a multi-sport watch is one of its appealing factors but it is marketed primarily as a dive watch. It’s even listed here in the forums under “Dive Products”.
If you’re not at all interested in the Dive features then surely you have a lot more options? Dive computers of this level are limited, especially if you want one that doubles as a sport watch (I think it’s just this and the Garmin Descent). I purchased the Suunto Ocean as an upgrade from the D5. It stood out to me as it was competing with other dive watches twice its price so it had a very very strong place in the market. A year later and next to no new dive features and improvements, they’re starting to loose that position as other companies catch up with cheaper models and more features and the Suunto Ocean falls behind.

Anyone tried if at least workout step count beeps and out of range alerts work? For either Suunto app made or third party custom workouts?

I have done some 50 dives with my Ocean now and I’m quite happy especially after the compass function came. My main complaint has been the very lagging maps which this update did address. I use it as my main wrist device, I have another computer for trimix.
The battery life is excellent and the display is one of the most visible. My son dives with Garmin and we both agree the Ocean is more clear in dive mode.
Since there is a lot of disappointment in this thread I’m curious what are the things I should be missing? Sidemount support? Timers? Not saying there is no room for improvement but should I demand more? The price point is quite low in my opinion. -
@pavel.samokha Hello, I have repeatedly requested an upgrade to the alarms function. Nothing fancy or complicated—just the ability to set alarms independently, such as twice per week on specific weekdays (e.g., Mondays and Thursdays) or only on weekends. This is a function similar to what Garmin watches already provide. Unfortunately, despite many users asking for the same improvement, it seems Suunto either does not consider it important or is not listening to customer feedback. In any case, this is disappointing. @bljyla Don’t get me wrong, it is a fantastic dive computer. The screen brightness and battery level alone are a massive upgrade over the D5.
I personally prefer the dive screen on the Ocean over the Teric and Descent. However, I would like it to be more customisable and maybe a couple of different layout options. I don’t like having to cycle through stats and faces to see the information i want, I’d like to be able to put it all on one screen how I want. I love how NDL and Tank Pressure use the outer circle as a kind of “gauge” but I’d like an option where they only use half each so can be used on the same face (a bit like how the Descent does tissue and ascent rate). The Dive screen is basically unchanged since the D5 was released so it would be cool to see some variations.
I’d also like to see a more advanced planner. The planner was added in the previous update which was great but its still quite basic, even compared to it’s predecessor the D5 which could plan multi dives and calculate gas time too.
A very minor one but the no-fly timer doesn’t seem to acknowledge multi-dives. Most dive organisations recommend increasing your no-fly time after multi dives. The Ocean seems to just stick with 12hr no-matter how many dives you do. It also sticks around on the watch face long after its cleared which is a bit annoying and pointless imo.
I’d love to see improvements to the underwater maps over time. It’s a cool feature but its not very accurate. I know this is very tricky but this is something that no one else is doing so it’s a big selling point for the Ocean.
I’ve seen some requests for a tides app which would also get my vote.
There’s lots of other good suggestions on the forums. I do appreciate that it is marketed as a “Dive computer AND sports watch”, but it’s their flagship dive computer and it’s disappointing to see the lack of dive related updates. Sure the other sports need updating too but it sounds like it’s behind on those too. The Ocean is in a very strong position right now as its competing with dive computers twice it’s price but they’ll loose it if people start thinking they aren’t supporting it any more and competitors come up with more affordable options.
