OHR accuracy of owners of Race 2
-
@Tomas5 I have had issues with my race 2 HR accuracy when doing movements like the skierg, rowing, wallballs, etc. I think my issue is the strap that comes with the race 2. I wore my wife’s Garmin side by side during a workout to compare and the Garmin picked up my hr perfectly while my race 2 was very inaccurate. It just wouldn’t pickup my HR sometimes at all while the Garmin had no problems. I even had my wife wear the Garmin and race 2 side by side. I think the band on the race2 is the culprit because it’s so stretchy it’s hard to get the proper fit. The band is very comfortable but the stretchiness isn’t great for HR accuracy. During runs the HR accuracy is perfect.

I will get back later after few weeks so people with same problem have some answers. At least for me it looks with Race 2 better than with S5. Not sure if it is accurate but at least no spikes with 200bpm while normal walk etc.
Walk looked good HR usually between 100-120 which is correct for me.
On bike it looks good too. I think there was rise of HR while riding down bumpy road while i think my real HR was lower but other than that it was correct. So for now good but this is only after two excercises. Will let you know later. -
Are there signs of cadence lock during downhills? Thats the only situation where the Race S OHR really fails for me
-
@VoiGAS i don’t run, i will see while hiking
-
Today possibly cadence lock in first half? Not sure but strange change in middle of activity while i walked same speed all the way.
-
@Adam.B which Garmin are we speaking of?
-
Today I did bike ride, almost all it was done on asphalt road. Here is comparison of Suunto 5 (using Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt), and Suunto Race 2 OHR sensor.

Yesterday during a long run. Constant pace all the way.

@Luis-Andés-Olmedo
Ok so I am not alone with those crazy high bpm in the beginning of each easy run… -

@sorinus try to wait minute or two after watch lock on HR before starting your excercise.
-
@Tomas5 with almost every Suunto watch I had bad OHR readings when riding my bike.
Usually it would eventually just fall into the lower 80s and stay there.Race 2 was the first watch to ever got OHR in cycling right for me!
-
@Tomas5 Mine is 100% off… See my report https://forum.suunto.com/post/177055
With screen capture, same evening first 10k easy with suunto ohr 165/170…
Then another last km with polar chest just to confirm I was not crazy or hillSame pace in both case 5:35 per km

@Matteiva my test from bike ride turned out good. Comparing to chest strap. I will do similar for walking activities. I am suspiciouse there is possible cadence lock when watch is not tight on your wrist. But i will see after comparison with chest strap. Hope i will find time to test this week.

With old Suunto 5 i hade from time to time crazy high HR measurement using OHR sensor. At least this didn’t occured yet on Race 2. So big improvement in that for my.
-
@Tomas5
in 10 years that’s the worst OHR I have ever seen for me while running
chest are always the best for specific workout, but for daily training or trail a good OHR should be enough, I use both chest and ohr, but very disappointed with the race 2, meaning I can not train with it’s ohr
-
@Matteiva I’ve been having a few problems with my Race 2, but OHR isn’t one of them — it’s actually been quite good, to be fair. Much better than my previous Coros Pace 3.
Today I did a 45-minute workout: 5 minutes in zone 1, 30 minutes in zone 2, and 10 minutes in zones 4 and 5. The watch performed impeccably in terms of OHR accuracy, as you can see here
-
@Matteiva hey, I am curious. Which OHR did you use 10 years ago? Must have been one of the first gadgets.
-
@Gunnar Tomtom watch, maybe not 10 but 8
ohr was better
-
@gogapo it surely depends per individual, skin tone, pilosity, and veins
I always used same strong nylon scratch band since garmin fenix 6x
