@Matteiva my test from bike ride turned out good. Comparing to chest strap. I will do similar for walking activities. I am suspiciouse there is possible cadence lock when watch is not tight on your wrist. But i will see after comparison with chest strap. Hope i will find time to test this week.

With old Suunto 5 i hade from time to time crazy high HR measurement using OHR sensor. At least this didn’t occured yet on Race 2. So big improvement in that for my.

@Tomas5 🙂 in 10 years that’s the worst OHR I have ever seen for me while running

chest are always the best for specific workout, but for daily training or trail a good OHR should be enough, I use both chest and ohr, but very disappointed with the race 2, meaning I can not train with it’s ohr 🙂

@Matteiva I’ve been having a few problems with my Race 2, but OHR isn’t one of them — it’s actually been quite good, to be fair. Much better than my previous Coros Pace 3.

Today I did a 45-minute workout: 5 minutes in zone 1, 30 minutes in zone 2, and 10 minutes in zones 4 and 5. The watch performed impeccably in terms of OHR accuracy, as you can see here

@Matteiva hey, I am curious. Which OHR did you use 10 years ago? Must have been one of the first gadgets.

@gogapo it surely depends per individual, skin tone, pilosity, and veins

I always used same strong nylon scratch band since garmin fenix 6x

@Matteiva I just read a review of the Tomtom runner 3. Same user experience as today for current watches. Nothing changed apparently 😉

@Gunnar 🙂 yes I remember it was almost 10 bits above my real heart rate, but race 2 was 25/30 yesterday evening, during all my activity 🙂

And garmin epix pro 2 was spot on most of the time, same type of band same personn ( me ! )

                      Hoping a fix soon

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. And I am the owner of my first Suunto device.
I really like the Race 2. They have a nice weight, a nice large display, and easy control with the digital crown.
What I am disappointed with is the quality of the OHR measurement. Today I had a light running workout in zone 1-2 during which I can breathe through my nose easily. From the chest strap I know that at this pace my heart rate is around 130-140. I ran downhill and my heart rate was 164-172. This is the heart rate I get during interval training!
I feel like my old Garmin Fenix 6 pro was more accurate. I know that OHR can’t record sudden changes in pace, but at the same pace it measures 20-30 beats more. I really don’t understand this and I’m afraid it’s more of a hardware issue than a software one.
I have white skin. Original suunto textile strap. Tight enough.

I have an ultramarathon coming up this weekend and I’m angry that I can’t rely on the watch. I don’t feel like wearing a chest strap for 100km…

@jsmno Unfortunatly Downhill the watches OHR have problems with “cadence lock” because it believes the movements are your heartbeat…
But as far as I know all manufacturers have this problem, interesting to hear that Garmin seems to be better in this aspect

@VoiGAS there is absolutaly no doubt that garmin since fenix 6 has good ohr. Tested race 2 for few more runs this week, even shaving the skin, measures still a total disaster.

@jsmno OHR on any watch for me is problematic. I’ve tried most of them. Because ZoneSense is so useful I use the Suunto belt most of the time and when running ultra races. I think OHR is highly variable based on individuals because of the underlying technology.

@Brad_Olwin fully agree, OHR for me is always spot on with Vertical 1 with the velcro-band and a quite tight fit.

using a Suunto Vertical & Suunto Wings; mostly running (AKA stomping around) and cycling through the northern german "wilderness", and wherever else I have the chance to do so

3 days now with Race 2. OHR seems very accurate in 24x7, walking and a 30 minute Zwift ride today.

I am starting to think that some Race 2 got OHR problems, software or hardware ?

I ran a first and perfect 10k with a fresh new Vertical 2, spot on from start to finish, with the same nylon stretch band than Race 2, same individual.

For reminder, for me with this Race 2
                                      8k 5:35mn/km 160 average most often 165/170
                                      Then
                                      8k 4:43mn/km 138 average with some 120 at 4:00mn/k

Here is comparison of Suunto 5 (with Suunto Smart Sensor) vs Suunto Race 2 (OHR). I had Race 2 tight enough but still comfortible. It is possible to tighten it one hole more but than it is not comfortable to wear anymore.
