Buy a vertical at the end of 2025??
-
Hello everyone,
I would like to replace my Garmin with a solar vertical Suunto. Is it relevant to buy this version now? Should I wait a few weeks? I saw rumors of a vertical 2 in the application then deleted after update. I absolutely need a MIP screen because I hate amoled (I have a Fenix 8).
I will use the watch for running, trail running and hiking over several days. I already use the Suunto application for my hammerhead gps.Thank you for your opinions

@Polux all depends on when you need your watch.
If you can wait a bit, Vertical 2 (or other name) should arrive sometime but only Suunto knows when (but likely in the next months, maybe before end of the year).
several case :- SV2 will be amoled => SV will be cheaper and is an awesome piece of gear for your needs
- SV2 will be MIPS => it will depend on your budget between SV2 and SV
- you canāt wait => SV is an awesome piece of gear

@Polux the answer is always the same, it you think the Vertical fits your needs, then to it. Vertical was released in 2023, it is still supported with firmware updates, but obviously (unless Suunto goes out of business) there will be a new watch taking its place at some point.

@isazi ⦠(unless Suunto goes out of business) ⦠is there any such a concern ?

@thanasis any company could go out of business at any moment. In case that would happen for Suunto, I do not see them releasing any watches after

@Polux you write by the end of 2025. Until then, I think a Vertical 2 is on the market (according to the rumours) and you can the decide what fits best for you. And likely there will be some good prices for the current Vertical if a Vertical 2 is on the market.

Thank you for your feedback. Having seen the rumors, I donāt really want to buy a vertical V1 if the V2 comes out in a few weeks. (like at the UTMB??) Itās not easy. Especially since they will certainly have updated the heart sensor for example. The current features are perfect for my use. Running, trail to but especially the itinerant hike for which I have need for reliability, latency-free mapping and possibly solar charging. I donāt know if titanium brings much apart from comfort if you wear the watch at night.
And finally the MiP screen! I hate the amoled on my Fenix 8. I feel like I have a black brick on my wrist.

@Polux I thought the same and did it today. I already had the Race S and thought the V1 could be a step back. And it really is, but mostly in a good way.
Pros:- I just love how the MIP display shines in the sun.
- The build quality reminds me how it was to wear a Suunto in the past
- Solar Power is great, even if I donāt know how much it really adds
- The Vertical seems to be the only modern Suunto with a Custom battery mode available
Cons:
- Even the Titanium version is a little bit to heavy for my liking
- The OHR sensor is an older generation, but also the modern one on the Race S wasnāt flawless
For the Cons a Textile Strap can help a little bit. So for me with the current prices the Vertical Titanium is still the best Suunto overall
Edit: I forgot an extra Pro. If you buy a used one you can get a āMade in Finlandā watch

@VoiGAS I purchased the V2 on release and do prefer it over the V1. Mainly the clarity of the screen. I also find myself using the torch much more than I expected! And the charger works so much better. I can normally read the V2 screen without glasses. I couldnāt do this on the V1.
However I could easily make an argument the V1 is the better sports watch. Particularly if you cycle. I know this forum seems to be full of issues with the watches, but I found both brilliant.
I donāt track sleep or worry much about the OHR. If I want HR Iāll use a strap. But the V2 does seem pretty accurate with itās built in OHR.
We are spoilt for choice with the products Suunto, Garmin, Polar, Coras etc produce. For me I am very happy with my choice over the last 7 or so years to follow the Sunnto route.

@Audaxjoe coming from the Race S, the display is similar to read for me. Race S is sharper, but Vertical bigger. Only the Heart Reate zones in the ring are much easier to see on Race S - thats a Con. As the V2s display is bigger and sharper I am sure it is great in this regard

And about the quality: First day, two crashes
. Really hoping for a stable firmware
