Trying to prepare my new watch for diving trip and got big problems without even getting into water. (watch came with firmware ~2.38.16)

      1. Full reset -> Settings -> Sleep -> Auto Do Not Disturb -> On. Shutdown watch, turn on and that’s it - AOD option no longer active, triggering Auto DND does not turn off that feature. No way to get AOD without reset. Changing screen brightness no longer works (you can toggle, but without an effect). Not sure if this is the only boobie trap to brick the watch, but this is the way to replicate 100%.
UPDATE: swipe up to widgets - > control panel - > do not disturb - > toggle “off” fixes the problem.

      1. Cannot use watch without synchronization with an app on the phone. If anything goes wrong and need to do full reset - you have expensive useless wrist bracelet…

      2. Maps download… Oh boy… No way to cache them on the phone and download is only activated on a charger with the speed of 0-7mbs. So that’s max 1MB/s. Decent countries take several GB… So after a full day of trying to download some maps, you can end up needing to do full reset. No way you can update your maps on the travel… + Had a watch crash, while uploading maps during charge. Happened once, but happened. Not a good trend on first day for diving watch.

Not so critical, but still important:

      1. Air Integration - you can create gas, but no way to differentiate by tank capacity. If you want presets for Air 10L tank, Air 12L, Air 15L - you get 3 with a title Air. Not so easy to select the right one and ensure it is correct before the dive

      2. Time formats dd.mm.yyyy and dd\mm\yyyy what happened to other formats like yyyy-mm-dd? (not critical, but lots of europeans use this format)

      3. Settings after reset and sync with an app does not restore previous setup. So watch does not have some kind of backup. This might be a problem, since android app does not show what kind of previous content is missing on watch.

And these are just basic stuff, and I did not even had time to test POD and diving features…

Any hopes it gets fixes soon? Like the watch, but can’t even start to trust it due to basic stuff crashing or not working.

So after first 1h dive in a pool, I have some questions:

        1. Watch on the left hand, POD from the right shoulder - half of the time I don’t get pressure readings shown. Only if I move left hand way to the right, it gets shown again. Is this some sort of closed space, indoor fluke or this is “normal” and I must use watch on the same side as pod or use some POD extension from now on? Maybe it was reading OK, but was not shown on the watch? (gas consumption graph had long gaps with 0 values, guess it is poor watch/pod connection).

Empty tank drill was nice - watch showed red alert with sound alarm.

        1. Why there is no dive start and end time on the app? The only way I could find actual dive time was on the watch logbook. Bottom time and other basic data is not available neither on watch or app.

        2. Stock watch strap is too small for 5mm wet suit, managed to secure it with last hole, need at least 1-2cm longer. Wonder if straps in accessories shop are longer or same max length and shorter? (watch came with single strap length, additional are sold with 3 parts).

        3. Compass was meh experience, does not really have tilt compensation, so it takes a while to get accurate reading.

        4. Since I will most likely will have to wear watch on the right hand, wonder if display rotation would be beneficial (watch side buttons are designed for the left hand use and feel akward wearing on the right). Some dive computers have ability to rotate display, guess this function is not available on Ocean?

But overall - decent first experience, good auto brightness, easy reading, good alerts (max depth was 4.8m, so too early to tell how it acts in open water).

I will try to answer a few points based on my experience:

          1. I am familiar with the problem of losing connection to the transmitter from other dive computers. I have not had any problems with the Ocean so far. I wear the transmitter on the centre-right and the watch on my left wrist.
Repositioning the transmitter or the watch can help (based on experience with other dive computers).

          2. The descent time is displayed in the app in the list of all activities (below the map, where the date is also shown).
A lot of basic data is not displayed. I have already sent a list to Suunto.

          3. The watch strap supplied is already the longer one. Suunto offers extensions and even longer straps on their website. You need to make sure you choose one that is 22 mm wide.
            I ordered the following extension:
            https://www.suunto.com/de-ch/Produkte/Taucharmbander/suunto-dive-verlangerungsarmbander/Suunto-Dive-schwarzes-Silikon-Verlangerungsarmband/

          4. I can’t say anything bad about the compass at the moment. The route recording is also pretty accurate.

          5. To my knowledge, display orientation is not currently available, but it would certainly be easy to implement and would help some people.

So I added 10+ dives, and ~20 other activities (yoga, hiking, skiing).

For diving with 5mm wetsuit: thought of an extra soft cord to help with watch strap. After a while, no problem straping watch onto suit with last hole.
Wearing watch on the right hand and POD on the right side solved disconnect issues. Not a single disconnect during dives.
No decompression time with default gradient was on par with other diving computers in a group. Default non removable alerts are a bit annoying, but can be excussed for safety.

For non diving activities: GPS works well, even under a coat.

            Problems:

Diving map (3D) is not recorded correctly if you do not wait for GPS signal before the dive. Scrolling between maps in an updated android app - crashes it or makes app unresponsive.

Can not end a dive manually. Tried to extend auto dive end (dove in cenotes, which means some surface time in a cavern), with default 5min, got my dive split into 2 parts. Set it to 10mins and did not find a way to stop the dive manually, which means POD alerts already dissasembling the gear outside the dive time (other computers also split the dive and probably everybody needs to live with this).

Battery is not a full week lasting (not gonna try to dive with less than 30%) if using for diving and smart phone features, so would not go on a journey without a charger (not an issue, but a thing to know). ps. Brightness was almost always on lowest setting, except for AOD autobrightness.
