Quick access to weather information was an attractive feature, but I’m so disappointed.

The watch presumably gets weather data from the app (Android, Samsung Galaxy S23) when it syncs, and I have made sure the app has appropriate Location permissions. But where does the app get the data? Does that interface also need to be told where we are?

I am guessing that the source of data is OpenWeather, or Accuweather, or similar - but I can’t match their data for my location with what I see on the watch.

It would be so helpful for the weather widget to tell us where it thinks we are (even if it has to be Lat/Long), and where it gets its data from - useful clues as to why the presented weather information is so inaccurate.

@jamesGW my Race 2 and Vertical Ti Solar always show “location” for weather and accuracy seems reasonable to me. Some areas may show a more general location but I suspect that is related to the source and what weather monitoring they have in the area. Source may be of interest for troubleshooting but otherwise I have not seen any issues. IOS App and latest updates on watch. Mid-Atlantic USA most of the time. Currently in the Caribbean with no issues. I think a recent update may have allowed the watch to get weather over WiFi but not certain.

@jamesGW my weather is accurate also. But annoyingly just shows England. I’m in Cheshire.

Funny when abroad it shows the region and I work near the Welsh border and if it syncs there it does show the region also.

It all depends on which weather service is being used.

For me, in the Netherlands, my suunto race s does a good enough job. It also shows the location it used on the watch. As far as I noticed, this applies to most European countries.

My previous 2 garmins did a lousy job. Garmin uses a service that only provides weather for main airports. People complained about it that the watch showed a different place then they were at the moment. Garmin “fixed” this by removing the location information from the watch, so you couldn’t judge the accuracy of the weather report anymore. So, people complained on garmins forum that the location information was removed. Garmin “fixed” the complaning by closing the topic on their forum.

And yes, two weather services might provide a forecast that contradicts each other.
