Rather than street and city names, I’d prefer to see colorful markings on hiking trails…

I think this could cause confusion when reading the terrain on a small watch screen. Colours and symbols should be as universal as possible, so you can tell at a glance what kind of landscape feature you’re looking at.

@Stefano-M64 So that’s the summary, right? No more further updates! Or maybe it’ll be in Q3?

So no news for V1, R1 and Rs

I’m puzzled about that the Ocean is thrown in this time …

@Stefano-M64 My guess is that the release will happen next Monday or Tuesday. This weekend is Hardrock 100 (https://hardrock100.com) , a big/important Ultra Trail event, and Suunto is one of the Sponsors. No one want to risk an update on the eve of the event and mess with updates + possible bugs.

This Suunto video doesn’t appear in the channel (https://www.youtube.com/@SuuntoTV/videos) yet, so I’m assuming it’s live but still “hidden”, maybe waiting the release.

@Stefano-M64 This is a bit concerning to be honest. They said in the video that updates to V1, R1, Rs will follow. Even if I think that is true, I believe R1 and Rs are done, the same way V1 and 9PP are.

After a release where V1 didn’t get the update at all, and with the current known issues with the latest release (crashes during activities in particular when multiple S+ apps, R2 distance, etc), I was assuming this next release to be focused on bug fixes and in update V1 with some of the missing features from the last update.

Instead, they decided to move further forward even more, leaving behind more devices. I want to believe the release will address the main bugs, in particular the crashes.

However it seems this release is creating more code branches. We have now:

                  • V2, R2, Ocean
                  • R1, R1s
                  • V1
                  • Run (maybe a one off and we should forget about it at all)

As a Software Engineer myself, this is not looking promising for old devices. It’s difficult to maintain, test, keep tracking. And the development team, for sure, are not happy with all this.

I was hoping more a “ok, let’s improve V1 as possible we can and park it” and move on with the rest. But it seems now that R1 and R1s are also close to be parked.

@jjorgemoura the newer models have more resources, so it’s likely unavoidable to have distinct update packages

@jjorgemoura what is very mysterious is that the Race got a lesser update than the Race S last time. So, the Race S must be more capable. And my gut feel is that the Ocean can’t be that more powerful than the Race S. The Ocean always has been a special device.
Maybe it just happens that the Ocean has an update ready the same time as the Race 2 / Vertical 2 has. I doubt that they are on the same fork so to say…

Rs is only two years old, so I guess it will be covered for at least another year (I mean, certainly for fixing bugs)

nice find 🙂 video is unlisted, so probably, we’re just waiting for update rollout.
some of those features mentioned in video are already available in Suunto App (iOS version at least). I was going through app recently and noticed that it looks different. was quite confused but it matches perfectly with what’s mentioned in the video 🙂

                          edit:
                          ups! video removed 😄

this was my internal feedback, to fix open issues on V1 and then call it a watch.
it would make development for newer watches easier.
let’s see if I am being heard 🙂

Hopefully the typo is fixed before next week release… 🧐

What I find interesting is that the Ocean is rolled out together with R2 and V2. Last times the Race S was closest to these two next gen watches

Nothing known about fixes for the postprocessing issue regarding the incorrect total distance after a workout?
