@nico1234 Sounds like you need a Garmin.

Yes garmin has this function, but the last garmin I had also had 3 or 4 annoying bugs in the “resume for later”. It alerted every 5 minutes an activity is to be resumed, alerts suddenly beeped, although I had beeps only for sportmode and I sometimes got of course alerts, indicating that the gps was stil on and rendering the resume for later useless.

I don’t think a lot of people used that function because there were only 2 people complaining on the garmin forum (including me). And of course this was 1 and a halve year ago, so bugs could be solved (or garmin added some more)

I just used ILoveGPX org to merge 2 GPX. Tracks. It is free, easy to use and works great

My activities are automatic pushed to strava, stryd and intervals.icu.

It’s quite cumbersome so have to keep those all in sync when you combine 2 gpx files. A resume later function is much more convenient.

But like I said, I don’t think it is used or wanted by many so it should not be suunto’s top priority. On the other hand, I’m completely puzzled by what is their priority.

@elbee They should be kinda aware because it was on one of their surveys and @gratefuldeadpan already said the cheaper Suunto Run has it. But we also know the suunto run , runs on a different platform, maybe why it was not implemented…idk…just a guess.

I can only share my experience. On the garmin forum, with bugs in popular features, there were soon several people complaining. On my bugreports about resume later only 1 other confirmed the bug.

It could be that suunto product manager looks at the garmin feature list and decides he want that too.

I feel the same! And yes, I’m coming from Garmin as well. So weird you have to stop the activity to use the other (great) functions of the watch (Race 2 in my case). You can imagine there are a lot of situations where using the functionality of the watch during a session will greatly improve the over all satisfaction and usability of the Suunto.

User reacting: ‘do your homework’ or ‘I don’t need it…’ well, that’s not really the point. Not being able to use basis functionality while on a session is not clearly communicated on the Suunto website. The watch is great with lots of useful functionality. It is only crippled when on an activity.
Want to see battery status: nope
Want to see total steps: nope
                Forecast: nope
                Temp sensor: nope
                Set timer: nope
                Set alarm: nope
                Use flashlight: nope
                etc.
That is also disappointing to me…

“will greatly improve the over all satisfaction and usability” greatly? meh. I see the use of the function and I used it on my garmin. But not daily. Not even monthly.

And the other stats you like to see? I don’t see that. I don’t say your use isn’t right, I’m only saying, not everybody shares your views.

@elbee Well, I would use it at least once a week. I would really appreciate this feature. If I could pick just one single thing for Suunto to add, this would be it. Well, except for bug fixes — I would like those even more. 😞

Suunto: Ambit 3, Spartan, Vertical 2

Of course, it’s perfectly fine that you don’t need or miss certain features. Others do, however. The fact that you can use them on Garmin from time to time is because they’ve implemented it there. That way, as a user, you’re free to choose for yourself whether you think it’s worth using or not. Now, Suunto has made that choice for you. And for a watch costing €600, I’d personally like to be able to use all the features whenever I want, not when Suunto or a user on the forum decides whether or not it’s useful.

@elbee I think the examples above give a good idea:
Multi Day Hike: As you cannot resume later, you maybe let the activity run paused. Then you cannot set the Alarm to get up early next day or use the torch to light the way to the toilette
Running/Hiking in the Dark: No Access to torch
Hiking: No weather forecast (Now solved with Gustin, thanks for that)

For me its also no problem, but for multi day adventures like UTMB - sponsored by Suunto - thats absolutely a great feature. Or something you for sure miss when switching to Suunto

@elbee we all are puzzled on what the priority is. It would be interesting to see the results of the questionnaire that was sent out, and the delivery of features and bug fixes that came around.

Can I just ask why such a feature is needed? I had this on my Garmin when I did the Tour du Mont Blanc, which is a multi-day hike. I recorded each activity separately, as technically these are separate activities. Later on, I merged the GPX files to see the whole trek(just curious), but I prefer to keep them separate, as I slept between them, etc.

Oh, yeah. I would really like that. And why some bugs are left untouched for more than half a year. (and I think keeping a bluetooth connection to a heart rate sensor is some basic functionality)

@nico1234 You know what I am disappointed in? In people buying a watch for 600eur and coming here to complain that it does not have specific very important (for them) feature. You have 600eur to operate with, you can research which watch represents the things you would like to have and buy that one. You do not need to buy Suunto, you can buy Garmin/Coros/Polar that has the one function you need.

We all have the functions we need and the functions we do not need and I would never buy a watch that does not have features I really need.

                                  Suunto Vertical (Titanium Solar Forest)

I do some social rides on a bike and we have coffee half way. It’s convenient to use your watch as a watch during coffee break. And the gps is turned off, which saves battery life.
Have to say, I recently bought a wahoo bike computer because a watch with oled screen isn’t the best for navigation on a bike. A mips watch I had earlier I could attach to my steer and the display would always be visible.

Also, during all day hikes, it’s convenient and saves battery, if you could stop the recording during lunch break. (If you pause and activity on a suunto, the gps chip is still active).

Personally, I would not use the resume later function for multiday events.

Yes, I wouldn’t use it for multi-day hikes either. But my use case might be different from others. I often run and stop somewhere to handle something, talk to people, or buy a few things. That is when this feature would be useful for me. The same goes for cycling.

I used to have a Garmin where I used this feature, and I knew when I bought the Vertical 2 that it wouldn’t have it. I just wanted to say that this is the feature I miss the most, but I can live with it. Everyone is different and uses things differently.

@nico1234 I agree, almost all brands now offer this function. I am testing an Amazfit Active 3 Premium, for 150€ this watch can save & resumen later, you can even go to the watch screen during an activity, open any of the apps and seamlessly go back to the activity without having any interruptions in it. Being blocked out of every function during and activity is not a good design decision no matter how you slice it.
