Is it just me? I charged the watch to 95% before bed, and it lost 10+% overnight. Cumulatively more than 25% during the 24h time. No GPS related workouts involved, actually no workouts during the last few days whatsoever

@oleksandr we have seen this, a soft reset immediately after EACH charging process fixed it (for me and my Vertical 2)

I have some battery drains on my race s. Up to 15% per night.

2 weeks ago I started a longish hike with 48% left. The watch said good for 16 hours.

After almost 7 hours the watch went in to battery save mode (resulting in doing next to nothing). Ended the 7 hours hike with 2% left and then the battery was completely depleted and the watch turned off.

I had some trouble charging it to 100% again (it took ages), but since then, battery life has been quite good.

It seems the problem is battery management and depletion of the battery and charging it to 100% resets something.

Now I have again about 5z per night and 5% per hour of gps activity.

@johann.fuehrer a soft reset? Just a reboot or or there is some special combination?

should do. the only thing I need to “fix” afterwards is the default of the torch - this resets also to white, medium intensity each reset. All other settings remain.

@johann.fuehrer thank you. Just did it, will see how it goes. Hopefully this issue will get fixed with the next update

@elbee I also seem to experience an excessive battery drain in my long runs (2 hours +). In time mode and my shorter runs up to 1 hour and a half battery seems to be OK - 2-3% - per night and ah hour run.
In today’s run, which was 4h15min I went from 48% to 28% with my battery. Do you think this is normal battery drain. I have to Sunto+ app on.
Since this is my replacement watch, I don’t want to go over the process again.

                    @Thorlap71

                    Don’t know.

I used to have a forerunner 935 (with a mip screen) with great battery life. Only had to charge it once every 2 weeks. Until garmin killed it with a battery update (they added galileo support but since then it didn’t matter which gnss setting you choose, it was always highest battery use)
When I couldn’t do a whole day hike on a battery load, I bought a new one.

A shiny forerunner 965 with an amoled. Had to charge it every 3 or 4 days with my usage (which was slightly higher than with the 935 but not much). After a year, I sold it due to many annoyances (not necessarily battery related)

After some tweaking my race s will do 4 or 5 days on a battery load. It is what it is for amoled watches. I’ll be checking battery level before a long hike, do regularly reboots and might deplete the battery completely from time to time.

I don’t expect improvements from suunto for my race s.
Sportwatches are getting more expensive but not better. Unless you like to collect as much data as possible and freakout if the gps trail on strava slightly wanders about the path you took.

@elbee I agree with you. I have V1 which is a very reliable watch with a stable performace. I though that by buying Race 2 I would be upgrading, but boy how wrong I was. As you have said, more modern doesn’t better The battery performace of the watch as of now cannot be trusted. When I set on my 4 hour run today it indicated 26 hours of performace, but when I finished I was left with 11. Don’t if race s and race two have the same battery?
Anyway, it’s sad and pure commercialism that there are already talks of launching Race 3, whereas their Race 2 series is still riddled with problems.
