Training Plan Implementation?

@strain Could you try Milestone?
Use the code SUUNTO during registration.
https://milestone.sportacademy.zone
It’s still in BETA, so I’d be interested to see how it behaves with the Run 2.

Just signed up. Says my request is going to be reviewed. I don’t think any training plans will be able to be synced.

@isazi I’ve just checked the specifications: Suunto Run and Run 2 are not compatible with SuuntoPlus Guides

So structured workouts from Milestone can’t currently be sent to those watches…
-
I am a returning Suunto user (20+ years ago I had a Spyder dive computer!) and have been in the Garmin eco-system for 10+ years.
I borrowed a friend’s Race 2 and decided to jump in and buy the Run 2 as I loved the UI but was flabbergasted to find the Race 2 that I just bought (running a newer OS) was unable to use my intervals.icu planned workouts (which the Race 2 was able to use).
I can also see the SuuntoPlus apps (eg. Race Surgeon) are not supported either.
I want to support Suunto and love the simplicity and clean design of the UI but the inconsistency of features between watch models is very annoying!
-
@digitalrunner what yould you propose how the models should differ, if not by material and features?
-
@digitalrunner why didn’t you buy the Race 2 the?
-
@egika what I would propose is that a higher-priced, more fully featured watch (Race 2) would include all the features of a lower-priced watch such as the Run 2. So for example, I would ideally have all the running features (eg. EnergySense or ZoneSense) available on the ‘flagship’ watch.
I run, I cycle, I row (indoor on a concept2 erg and outdoor), I lift. At the moment I would need to buy the Race 2 for the SuuntoPlus apps like the connection to my erg or like Race Surgeon for running race timings but I would need the Run 2 if I wanted to use EnergySense or ZoneSense.
I know that this discrepancy is due to the Race 2 being on a ‘older’ OS so I would imagine this could be solved by upgrading all watches with capable hardware to the same OS to have at least some feature parity?
-
@gunnar I borrowed the Race 2 from a friend to try out the Suunto UI (which I much prefer to Garmin). I then bought the Run 2 as my research showed that the Race 2 was on an older OS and wasn’t guaranteed to be updated. I will use the Run 2 for now and put up with not having the SuuntoPlus apps that seem really helpful (eg. Race Surgeon) and see what the Race 3 brings!
-
@digitalrunner Your expectations makes sense.
Actually I thought that all higher end models like Race 2 or Race S do have ZoneSense metric, don’t they?
EnergySense is rather new. It has not been available when Race 2 was introduced. It will come with a firmware update.But in general, newer models (even if lower end) can have features that oder high end models did not have. Like todays A-class Benz has more features than 1990 S-class.

@Egika I think mapping + materials should have been the differentiator. Now that they added mapping to the Run 2 it kind of muddies the water here. I prefer the lightweight nature of the Run series and have a Race 2 but don’t prefer the weight. I’ve been manually creating the workouts on the Suunto app but nowadays your road racing watch should definitely have such a common feature that your competitor watches have as well. Coros pace 4 has this ability and mid tier Garmin Forerunners. Hopefully Suunto implements it soon.

Race 2 does not have an “older” OS. It is just different to the Run and Run 2 OS.
-
@sky-runner I think perhaps it’s the “new” one that they are developing and hoping to launch to the rest of the lineup eventually. I do think it has a lot more “specific” features to it that the other OS doesn’t have. One example being able to set LTHR for your running zone among various others. This is just my guess

@snow now it is race 2 in his post mow. Likely corrected.
-
@Egika I would suggest that such a basic feature for a watch towards Runners shouldn’t be the differentiator. Structured workouts are the bread and butter of road runners. Most will evolve to use structured workouts or at least try them out.
I recognize that at least the Suunto App is great at built them but it that’s the only option at least a calendar planning should be available at the app. Has it it is now it’s not a runner’s watch.
Maps it’s less important than workouts. You can plan routes on Komoot or on the suunto website but you can’t plan workouts? Doesn’t make sense. Coros is grabbing a big chunk of runners because of this.
