@Egika I think mapping + materials should have been the differentiator. Now that they added mapping to the Run 2 it kind of muddies the water here. I prefer the lightweight nature of the Run series and have a Race 2 but don’t prefer the weight. I’ve been manually creating the workouts on the Suunto app but nowadays your road racing watch should definitely have such a common feature that your competitor watches have as well. Coros pace 4 has this ability and mid tier Garmin Forerunners. Hopefully Suunto implements it soon.

@gunnar I borrowed the Race 2 from a friend to try out the Suunto UI (which I much prefer to Garmin). I then bought the Run 2 as my research showed that the Race 2 was on an older OS and wasn’t guaranteed to be updated. I will use the Run 2 for now and put up with not having the SuuntoPlus apps that seem really helpful (eg. Race Surgeon) and see what the Race 3 brings!

Race 2 does not have an “older” OS. It is just different to the Run and Run 2 OS.

@sky-runner I think perhaps it’s the “new” one that they are developing and hoping to launch to the rest of the lineup eventually. I do think it has a lot more “specific” features to it that the other OS doesn’t have. One example being able to set LTHR for your running zone among various others. This is just my guess

It has not been available when Race S was introduced. It will come with a firmware update.

looks like really interesting things are going to show up on my SRS sooner or later 😋

@Egika I would suggest that such a basic feature for a watch towards Runners shouldn’t be the differentiator. Structured workouts are the bread and butter of road runners. Most will evolve to use structured workouts or at least try them out.

I recognize that at least the Suunto App is great at built them but it that’s the only option at least a calendar planning should be available at the app. Has it it is now it’s not a runner’s watch.

Maps it’s less important than workouts. You can plan routes on Komoot or on the suunto website but you can’t plan workouts? Doesn’t make sense. Coros is grabbing a big chunk of runners because of this.

                  Right.

This is the response I got regarding training plan implementation:

                    2. Menu Lag & External Training Plan Integration

                    • Menu Lag & Choppiness: We have formally logged your performance report regarding menu scrolling lag alongside the details from reviewer feedback. Our software development team is actively investigating UI optimizations for upcoming firmware updates.
                    • External Training Plan Syncing: We recognize how vital third-party training plan syncing (such as TrainingPeaks, NÖRD, or other structured plan partners) is for road runners. While this functionality is currently limited on the Run line, our product management team is evaluating expanded API integration for structured workout syncing in future software releases.

It is not just for road runners. I am primarily a trail runner and follow a lot of other trail runners. There is a good number of people who are more serious into ultramarathon training and have a coach, and most of them use Training Peaks or a similar platform. I used a coach earlier this year and am likely to hire another one next year. Even though I train on my own now, I have a paid Training Peaks subscription. The reason for that is that workout planning and management in TP is far superior to Suunto, and I can do it on a laptop. Also, I think the TP workout Suunto+ guide is much better than the built-in interval UI that is too simplistic (like many things Suunto does). I used the built-in interval UI once and that experience was enough for me to make me buy the TP subscription.

@sky-runner I agree training plans are used by virtually anyone with a goal in mind and are serious about accomplishing their goals.

Just makes it all the more frustrating we need to manually create them on the basic interval creator on the Suunto app or alternatively use the AI coach which frankly kind of sucks. For example, why is there a 10 week marathon plan? I don’t know any plan that has such a short span to train for a marathon seriously especially with a time goal in mind
