@Tami999 I don’t judge the sensor, I couldn’t as I don’t have it here. But Marketing said it is the best sensor in a Suunto watch.

But Marketing said it is the best sensor in a Suunto watch
I don’t trust any advertising, but now that I have it, I was curious to compare it with my trusty chest strap, which I use every day. I’m one of those unlucky people whose ohr doesn’t work in anything other than sitting still… Last night I did my usual run and was pretty surprised to see nearly identical data. That said, I think anyone who wants reliable data will keep using the chest strap, but knowing that, at least in my case, ohr has finally become usable is good to hear. I’d like to know if this is a completely new sensor or the same one used in the V2/R2 models…

For me also wrist based sensors don’t work. I do regularly long runs and then heartrate isn’t that interesting so I don’t bother using my polar oh1+. My race s does give reasonable heartrate readings for the effort. Until it doesn’t and locks in on my cadence. Specifically now that it’s getting a bit cooler.
But I really don’t mind. The wrist based sensors is great for sport gadget bloggers, because it’s easy to check, just like gps accuracy. They become quite obsessed by it.
Serious sporters use a cheststrap. Or more and more a optical sensor on the upper arm. And there are the ones (some very fast local heroes) that just run on feeling. Sportwatches make that people loose the feeling of their own body and have to look at their watch how they have slept.

@havupuumies I have been testing the Run 2 for months and have only had crashes when we had firmware updates that were problematic. I have nearly 50 activities mostly running with one or two crashes.
There is something wrong with your device. I would try a soft reset (upper button for 12 sec) and if that does not work do a full reset from the menu. If the watch continues to crash contact support. My longest recording with the Run 2 was 14h. -

@havupuumies Hi, a few days ago I swapped my RS for a RUN 2 and I’ve got a trail running race this weekend, so I’ll be using it then. I’ll let you know how it goes. AFAIK my friends haven’t had those issues but never say never…

My friends and I didn’t have any problems at all during the roughly 7h

Hi everyone! I got my first sports watch, and I wanted to share my first impressions with it. I’ve now had it approximately 3 weeks in use. Since I’m a long term Sports Tracker user, I decided to stay within Suunto ecosystem and Suunto Run 2 sounded good for me.
I use it to track mostly running. So far I’ve had approximately 10 runs with it.
Good:
- Good feature set
- Informative, customizable displays
- Solid build
- Easy to use
Bad:
- It crashes during sports, almost every time, especially during the running. It renders the watch completely useless for its purpose. Sometimes after reboot it will continue tracking, sometimes it has completely lost all the recording of the run so far.
- Sometimes it stops recording position, and you’ll just miss some parts of your route
- Sometimes it completely overshoots the HR tracking (e.g. actual heart rate close to ~140, watch records 180+ and then usually crashes)
I mean, this unit might be the worst piece of equipment I’ve ever owned. I’ve tried all kinds of stuff and different settings to fix the situation, but no change. It just keeps crashing during running activities. Is this same for everyone else, or is my piece just unlucky defective one?
I didn’t have any issues when I was testing it for a few weeks. Everything was pretty much spot on.
I did end up returning the watch though but it was because of the software quirks that ended up frustrating me.
If you haven’t already, I would return your watch and get a new one. There seems to be something wrong with yours

So, an update: As suggested, I sent the watch for warranty repairs to Suunto. The warranty process was smooth, courier picked up the watch and it was quickly delivered to Suunto repairs. It appears that the unit was defective, and it was replaced. I received the new unit in few days. Now I have used it on two runs (5 km and 23 km) without any issues.
- The warranty process was smooth
- New unit seems to be fully functional without any mentioned issues
